I don't care about the delay and stuff. Amazon will take care of that. I need to see the reviews first to make sure they've nailed it. And as it stands now, I'm more interested in the DXG.

Very true. I'd think most remaining Kindle 1 owners will give this serious consideration. And I believe Jeff Bezos is correct that many families will turn into 2 Kindle households thanks to the $139 WiFi only edition. Thanks to the "6 concurrent licences" for most commercial Kindle ebooks, mom and pop can read that same darn thriller *at the same time* on their own Kindles. Can't do THAT with a paperback!

I've been very happy with my K1. I was planning to wait to replace it when "the next generation" of technology came along (Mirasol, Sipix, can't remember the 2 or 3 other rumored technologies that have been about to come out "any day now" for the past 6 - 12 months). But Pearl sounds pretty good. The streamlined dictionary lookup that was introduced in K2 would be very welcome. And wifi would actually be better for me than 3G because I don't have a very robust signal where I live. So $139 is very tempting.... |

I love how successful the Kindle product line is. I was one of the $499 K1 early adopters, then the K2, then the DX, then back to the K2, then the DXg, then back to the K2, then ordered the K3.
I travel a lot and remember when I would use my K1 on a plane. People were so confused - had no idea what it was. The K2 was kinda the same after it was initially released. The DX threw people for a loop and the DXg continued that trend. Now, when I travel, I see e-Book readers everywhere. People ages 15 to 85 use them. I won't say they are as common as, say, an iPod, but it's refreshing to see this technology taking off. I knew it was a winner after dropping half a grand on the K1. So, I have returned the DXg (just too big as I carry two laptops through airports weekly) and am eagerly waiting on the K3. Until then, my trusty "stand-by" K2 works great. |

Is that possible to upload non-Amazon ebook (my pre-own) into Kindle and read on it, without sending email to Amazon?
Which way is the best to upload and read, (Calibre?). Please advise as I'm interested to buy Kindle and new in here. |

Calibre is a great program for managing and converting your library, but it's not always necessary. It is the coolest piece of ebook software I've ever seen though. It's the only piece of shareware that I actually sent extra money in on (at a later date) because I felt guilty about how much I valued it. |

You can load DRM free mobi files onto your Kindle. Calibre is a great tool! You can convert your DRM free books in other formats to mobi so they will work on a Kindle. It is really pretty easy!

Thanks Guy, initially I though Kindle is too restricted to read personal (pre-own) ebook to read on it (sending email to them and resent it).
Kindle 3 attract me so much, so some questions raise ![]() |

I'd say a good 8/10 times I'm out and about and have the Kindle out someone walks over to ask what it is. If I wasn't already in a relationship this thing would have been an amazing conversation starter with women. ![]() |

I'm glad I didn't preorder when the announcement first came out for the wifi 3g one. I LIKE having a delay and still may wait. I want to see what actual owners say when they review it that first week. I put the K3 in my "saved cart" the very day it became available for preorder (actually both the wi fi and 3g/wi fi until I decided which was for me).
And my cynical Bronx-gal side says, "Oh, marketing ploy to encourage EVEN more frenzy! They probably will say later, oh, look, we have enough to ship out a couple days after first go-out." Yeah, yeah. I am overthinking this likely. Or I like Mad Men too much. ![]() I still want my K3, but I'm trying to tell myself to calm down and see what happens with the next gen larger screen Kindle. I kinda really want THAT one. ![]() Eh, watch me cave and preorder before 8/27. Or rather, "Wait in line".... |
