I had never read Dracula until I got my nook, and I was shocked by how much I liked it. Not an amazing book by any means, but I thought it was pretty good and well worth reading. Stoker's pacing is very Victorian, but I liked the ebb and flow of the drama.

Forgot to mention I'm reading the first book of Tales from the Green series, by an author who posted here to MR. About 1/3 of the way through a book that has a touch of Harry Potter and a touch of Tolkien in it, and am happy so far.

Don't interrupt me. I'm halfway thru The Long Goodbye and have to see how this ends. Go make your own breakfast and leave me alone.
That was a quote from this morning. I can't seem to put this book down. |

Now you've got me interested. I'm in the middle of the Swedish author Jan Guillous memoires and thought I would perhaps skip this months MR read but now I'm not so sure.

It's a fast read, so you could get back to the memoirs soon. It's mostly first-person monolog, so there isn't really a stopping place. I'm enjoying it more than I ever expected.

Stayed up late to finish it myself. Thought I had it all figured out. Until the ending.

You guys are making me want to re-read Chandler again
![]() In the meantime, I'm almost finished with The City and The City. Enjoyable but not Miéville's best, I think. I'm also reading Virgin with Butterflies, a Harlequin "vintage" book from the 1950's. I love this kind of books and remember buying one or two in the used books booths along the Seine when I was a student. This one is delightfully funny, naive and old-fashioned, and the main character is very lovable (although a bit too naive sometimes, but she's smart too. And I guess naive was something a young woman was supposed to be in these days. She is also, of course, very virtuous and constantly escaping from the paws of mean men trying to attempt to her virtue, or virtuous men wanting to marry her. I think I know which one will get her in the end). |

Not reading any ebooks at present, but have three pbooks on the go:
Stitch 'n bitch - The Knitter's Handbook Dr Hessayon's The Bedside Book of the Garden Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's The River Cottage Meat Book Plus two I'm using for inspiration, so flicking through rather than reading: David Ellwand's Fairie-ality and Fairie-ality Style |
