Yeah and the UK folks won't have to deal with the price fix 5, Amazon will be setting book prices.

I doubt that, those companies will most likely impose similar terms from their uk companies.

Nope, it's already been announced that Amazon will be doing the pricing (for now anyway).

Well, I would like to take credit for that; it was one of my feedback comments to Amazon after I got my Kindle last year. I told them the toggle was making my thumb sore, and suggested they use a pad like on the Sonys.

@MoeJoe has it right. It is about providing a convenient product to the mainstream book reader market. It isn't about formats or standards or DRM. It is about selling Kindles to readers and then selling them ebooks....

Good post, Bob, I think you are absolutely right with your insights.

Although it's way better than K1, K2 i don't need another 6" device.

Native PDF, native ePub, 9.7" and i'm going to switch to Amazon.
There will be no epub support from Amazon. Why should they make themselves some competition.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for an FBReader - Kindle DX Edition. Anyone got it on his/her Kindle?

I've been resistant to kindle and its limitations but this seems like a good price.
I was originally considering the kobo, then the nook when its price decreased, and now the kindle.
I'm just wondering if I should wait a little longer to see what sony, b&n, etc will do.

Well this seals the deal for me. I have been doing most of my new reading on the iPad, but I've been looking for a replacement reader for my Sony 500 to carry books to the beach, the pool, the tub, etc. I love my Sony but I'm away from a PC more often than not and I need to get the books into the thing from a wide variety of geographic locations. If anyone is interested in it, PM me and make me an offer I can't refuse.

EDIT: Correction, I have a 550! My bad. I know return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I think it would be prudent to wait two months if you have the patience.

Let's see who else offers the eInk Pearl screen, and at what price.

Yeah, and in Germany the publishers will set binding prices individually for their books. If and when the Kindle actually gets German books, so far it's almost exclusively English. Not that I mind all that much, but to succeed in a local market they need to get local publishers on board.

It does not mean that they will buy english books. The English section in German book shops tend to be ruffly 2% of the total size of the shop.

And those who do, and use Amazon, will either klick on "Englische Bücher" in amazon.de or go to amazon.com. I know no german who would go to amanzon.co.uk.

I did't and I lived in England for four years. I got hardcover “Wheel of Time” send all the way from the USA because it is cheaper[1] and the US version has nicer cover pictures[2].

And I fear that british shops have the regionally restrict as well so that Australians won't be there. As an example. I can't prove it without actually buying a book.

Martin

[1] cheaper then the german paperback.
[2] then the British hardcover.
