What would be the point of peer-to-peer (ad hoc) networking on the Kindle?

OK I'd love to have one of these (I have a K1) for lots of reasons, but storage space isn't one of them. While my K1 has smaller built-in storage, it also has an SD card slot that I have a 4GB card in. I'm guessing the K3 (like the K2) lacks the memory card slot? In terms of storage space I still think K1 is best.

Okay, that makes sense. It sounded like the original poster wanted to network two Kindles together. I was trying to figure out what the point of that would be.

Also it's no big deal for a laptop or device to connect to anadhoc device such as a phone so configuration isn't an issue. Most devices support adhoc, but my logitech squeezebox radio and apparently the k3 won't. Last edited by volwrath; 07-29-2010 at 04:34 PM. |

Do you know why your Squeezebox Radio (and possibly the K3) doesn't connect to an ad-hoc type network? Just curious what that limitation stems from. |

Just checked at newpower99.com (site where PilotBob's video is from) & they have battery replacement kits for Kindle Three (Global edition), also called Kindle 3 (Global edition) or Kindle III (Global edition).
Appears to be the same battery as the Kindle 2 (also called Kindle II & S11S01A) and the Kindle DX (also called S11S01B). |

So did I.
But I was wrong. It turned out that I had to buy a new wi-fi + 3G K3. I decided to go with the 3G because it's a one time cost, it means that I don't have to be concerned at all about syncing bookmarks between devices, & I can do on the road downloads without hunting up a McDonalds for some free wi-fi. I was hoping that the 3rd generation would have more contrast & be a bit smaller. And so it is. It's not quite pants pocket size, except for cargo pockets, but it should fit in a jacket pocket. So this will fill in the gap in my Apple ecology, between my iPad and my iPhone. Right now I have a Sony 300 and a 505, which I like in & of themselves, but Sony just doesn't want to play with Apple - no app, and no wireless. So the bottom line is that I can't buy a book just once to read on all three devices. As for the Nook, I find that color second screen to be a visual distraction. I think Amazon just lengthened it's EBR lead... |
