I didn't like the Kindle 2 that I ordered. I sent it back.
I have loved the Sony 505 and will wait until there (hopefully?) is an upgrade to this ereader. |

I'm actually not sure that that is how D-Grandma's method works. she's about as honest as the day is long. I've never tried it. to reiterate... there are other threads talking about the validity of the illegality of DRM anyway

The method she specified was shifting the Mobipocket DRM. But, that's no longer possible to do on firmware 2.5 or above as Amazon has changed how the PID is calculated. To my knowledge, nobody has yet figured out how to get the PID from a book downloaded to firmware 2.5.x. So there is no legal or even semi-legal way to get a library eBook on a Kindle 3.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU#Languages And that is before Switzerland with it's three languages on the scale. Germany is also the largest Economy. I just don't know where you people from the States get your ideas from. The reason Amazon goes to the UK is that they have some English books to sell. Mostly independents and public domain that is as the big publishing houses still insist on DRM and regional restrictions. Of course British publishing houses, holding British publishing rights, already sell ePUB in British eBook stores. Just a few links for you so you stop thinking we live in mud huts and only wait for USA / Amazon to rescue us from the dark ages: http://ebooks.whsmith.co.uk http://www.waterstones.com/waterston...browse/ebooks/ http://www.beam-ebooks.de/ http://www.bol.ch/shop/boc_ebo_startseite/show http://www.libri.de/shop/action/maga...ks_reader.html http://www.thalia.ch/shop/jae_ebo_startseite/show http://www.weltbild-ebooks.ch/?wea=2220456 The Market is all carved up here and with regional restriction still rampant it will be difficult to get in. Still no full unicode font?
hey, Amazon... there is a huge market called China. EDIT Support for New Characters Kindle can now display Cyrillic (such as Russian), Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Korean characters in addition to Latin and Greek scripts. I do expect Amazon having all/most of the K2's purchased within the past 30 days being returned for a K3.

They still didn't fix the most pressing needs.
1.) replaceable battery. 2.) removable card slot. 3.) folders. 1. - I just had one of my hanlin readers battery die a week ago. It uses a user removable nokia standard form battery. Googled battery stores, found one 30 minutes away drive time. Hopped into car, bought battery, installed new battery, and was charging in 1 hr 15 min. Try doing that with any device with a non-replaceable battery. 2. If you have a dead battery, or otherwise a dead machine, how do you get your books off of it? With a removeable chip, you just pop out your chip and send the device in. No problem. 3. Folders - I keep a 1000+ books on my reader. Collections aren't enough for me, I want folders... Even if you treat it as a disposable, shifting libraries from one machine to another without a removable chip becomes a pain... |

If you are waiting for a firmware upgrade to a long since discontinued model, I wouldn't hold my breath. As far as hardware upgrades Sony has since introduced the 700 (discontinued), 300, 600, and 900. The 300 was the only one that didn't have a touchscreen that degrades viewing quality. October should be when Sony introduces any new models, if they do let's hope they are vastly superior in screen quality to the 600 and 900, and at least as good as the KDXG and K3. Otherwise Sony will take themselves out of the market due to lackluster readers and an even more lackluster Reader Store.

card slot: I think anyone who has large collections of music, books, pictures or whatever stored on an electronic device and hasn't backed them up somehow is just asking for trouble. removable card or not. I'm keeping my original K1 and will send books that are worth keeping to that card. collections: really? they can't do what folders can just by a different name? |
