and I will continue to repeat... it is a common FALLACY that library books cannot go on a Kindle. when it is brought up, I will argue it. and for the record I was going to the library right up until I got my Kindle
Others have explained to you the technical aspects of gaining the "availability" to load library ebooks onto a kindle (which I am aware of and technically able to do), but I will point out additionally (not using a 45 point red font) that this technique is NOT ebook lending, it is ebook stealing.

I have no problem with stripping DRM from a book I have paid for,I do that all the time, but stripping DRM from an ebook lent to you by a library, is wrong, legally, and more importantly, ethically.

So your big red letters, did not inform so much as confuse the issue.

I am curious for those in the UK with K2's... I know that you can now use the Web Browser for free.. have the $2 surcharge on each book been removed... or are you still paying that?

Well to be fair, most eInk readers can get a month with wifi off, not having wifi in the first place. I was impressed though by their assertion that you could get ten days or so with wifi on.

I wonder if they plan to back port the Webkit browser to the K2. Perhaps not considering they didn't back port PDF support to the Kindle classic.

Hmm.
PRS-500 could last maximum 3 weeks when brand new. Reading no more than 60-70 pages per day.
PRS-505 could last maximum 2 weeks under the same usage conditions.

What readers last longer than 2 weeks?

It won't be too bad if it whispersyncs on wifi anytime it comes across a valid wifi access point, without having to be turned on.
The Amazon advertizing page has the following blurb;

Quote:
That's half the news. We're also excited to introduce a new Kindle family member—Kindle with Wi-Fi only. KindleWi-Fi isonly $139. Kindle Wi-Fi is identical to our new $189 Kindle, except it doesn't have our go-anywhere 3G wireless. If you're going to use your Kindle primarily in locations where you'll have access to a Wi-Fi hotspot-like at home-then Kindle Wi-Fi is a good choice. At $139, we expect many people will buy multiple Kindles for the home and family.
{Emphasis is mine.}

How many "at home" networks are not peer-to-peer/ad hoc type networks? I would be very disappointed if I got the wi-fi only version and could not connect through my home network.

I would like a review from someone who gets the wi-fi only K3 & has an 802.11 home network.

I'm guess most if not all WiFi home networks (those created with a Wireless Access Point/Router) are NOT ad-hoc networks.

My Elonex 511EB has gone between 3 and 4 weeks of heavy use between charges each month since February (sad, yes, but I decided to track it in my book reading list). I worked out that I was getting very close to the quoted 8,000 page refreshes.

I think others have reported similar battery life for their devices.

Since the Kindle 2 you could always put a PDF on the kindle for free via USB. If you email and have sent Via whispernet there is a data transfer fee based on file size.

I'm not from UK, but I'm from Europe and in Portugal we still have to pay that 3G surcharge (even free ebooks, except samples).

It might be 5" vs 6" thing though, and also depends on how much you use the device, of course.
