More impressions of betatesting: the device has been able to delete a folder with more than 2 gigabytes of content in less than 20 seconds. I think that says much about how stable the OS is. It hasn't hung still in books (it hung once as I was trying to open the formerly mentioned folder, which happened to have no subfolders, and was filled with 5000 documents).

You can send PM to Forkosigan, try for yourself and file a bug report.
I would try on my reader but I do not have an SD card that would trigger this bug.

Not a single hitch.
But I am not sure how representative sample am I, because I did not have problems with previous version of 15.2 either ;-)

So glad that it's going so well! Hopefully it's that good for everyone!

Are you testing the new version of 15.2 or the even newer 15.3?

I'm not sure if I should install the new 15.2 yet or not.

The latest and greatest 15.2

I will repeat the feature request I had filled several times before.
Dear Guys in Kiev please include a build number, or some identification with the firmware version number. There are at least three versions 15.2 available at the moment and it is difficult to talk about which version I am using.
Also when somebody has device with firmware already installed, it is impossible to tell which of the several builds of 15.2 he has installed.
Thank you.

Well, let's see what can you gain and what can you lose by installing 15.2 Third Release Candidate.
Pro 01. You will get several very interesting features
Pro 02. You do not lose any features
Pro 03. You can help Guys in Kiev and also future PocketBook users by discovering potential bug. (*)
Pro 04. You will have THE coolest e-book reader firmware out there ;-)
Con 01. You might find the firmware buggy and you will have to spend at least 10 minutes flashing the 14.2 back (after flashing 15.2 you can prepare 14.2 flash.bin on the reader, so when you need to reflash it is right there -- just attach charger, press two buttons and start the reader and presto - you are back in 14.2)
Con 02. A bug might prevent you from using the reader until you get back to the computer and can do a reflash back (see the comment for point Con 01. ;-) )

That is it.
You have nothing to lose.

(*) Perhaps you do not consider yourself an exceptionally competent PocketBook hacker, but the mere fact that we are discussing beta version of firmware here means you are much better informed, and much, much more knowledgeable than the vast majority of PocketBook users out there. Most people that own an e-book reading device do not bother looking for third party applications, themes, hacks or new versions of firmware updates online unless they run into severe problems. I would hazard a guess that PocketBook users are in average more knowledgeable than, let's say Kindle users or Kobo users because it is more probable they did the homework and looked up what is the best reading device for their needs.

Well that all sounds pretty promising, kacir! I'll install it tomorrow and see how I go.

I have to strongly agree with you about asking the GiK to put a build number in with the firmware number. It's getting very confusing. If I wasn't so anal about my file organisation it would be hard to know which version I was running.

I'll try to gently break this to the guys, but as they're fiercely independant, our influence concerning version numbers etc. is next to nil.

Are you trying to tell us, that despite us asking for this for many, many months you haven't told them yet? ;-)

We are not asking Guys in Kiev to change version numbers, or something.
We are asking that instead of having three 15.2 versions we would have 15.2.08569, 15.2.10568, 15.2.35689, or perhaps 15.2.100728 for firmware compiled 28.7.2010.
Easy and simple.
All you need to do is change a single string in the "about device" screen and name .zip file with firmware correspondingly.
And keep them fiercely independent. It obviously produces great results ;-)

You do not have to do that.
We can continue to refer to firmware versions like this "you know, it was in 15.2 that was posted by Forkosigan on jully the 16th on German forum as a link to Rapidshare server with the name swupdate_09Jun2010_360_de_ws_15_2.zip"

And, by the way. Will we see SDK corresponding to the newest firmware with English documentation?
This page http://pocketbook-free.sourceforge.net/index.shtml looks quite obsolete, and English version here http://pocketbook-free.sourceforge.net/en/index.shtml is even older.

Maybe in Ukranian?
