Haven't seen it myself, but it got great reviews, especially the actress who plays Lisbeth Salander.

Hi Ea, everybody is speaking highly of the books about Napoleonic Wars with dragons. I decided, i am going to buy the first one and read it. I might also reread the trees' part of the LOR.

I like this thread and I would like to discuss in it and not just post from time to time.

Just finished American Gods, I liked it better than I did when I abandoned it, but I felt like the book ended with a whimper rather than a bang. There was one plot point I particularly enjoyed, however, that was nicely set up by Gaiman. But I think you need to be into mythology to like this book at all. My wife is not nearly so into it as I am, and she wasn't impressed when she read it a few years ago.

[Edited to add: I will be jumping into the discussion when I get home from work today!]

Working on the June issue of Apex Magazine now. Figure I need a break from novels, so I'm going to read a few shorter pieces this week.

Been a few adverse comments lately, I was warned the first was a slow starter and that it certainly is but in the end I found the story an entertaining read.

As long as you are aware it is a very slow starter, and read to the end, you should enjoy it. The second and third books are better.

My comments after reading them in this post

I am sorry, I was referring to an other series, I will edit my original post.

I read your (well written) comments on Steig Larsens Millenium trilogy. I agree 100% with your judgments.

I reread the third already. I am strating to feel a certain stirring to reread the second. For the first I still feel neutral.

Well, I now understand why they didn't really stay with me. A very weak ending in my opinion, I'm not surprised I forgot I'd read them.

Now onto something I bought a couple of years ago, when I bought a LOT of books from Fictionwise on a 100% rebate deal.

Camouflage by Joe Haldeman

It's not available from Fictionwise anymore, and it doesn't seem to be available at Amazon to UK customers. So I'm glad I bought it when I did. Joe Haldeman wrote the wonderful The Forever War.

Yesterday I finished White Seed: The Untold Story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke by Paul Clayton. Towards the end, the pace increases to breakneck speed, and the story ends with a very satisfying climax. This must read ends with a bang, not a wimper. This story will stay with me for a long time.

I've been dithering about dipping my toes into this series, and this I think has made me decide to try

Read Apex Magazine for June and Clarkesworld Issue 45 today. I wasn't real big on the Apex stories, to be honest, but I'm not sure they're written for someone of my taste. They seemed to be geared a bit more towards harder SF and didn't seem fleshed out enough. The Clarkesworld stories were complex and had a nice dark edge to them, and was just as good as the other times I've remembered to read the online magazine. (Disclosure: They once published my wife, I may have a slight bias.)

Apex Magazine June 2010 Issue

Clarkesworld Magazine Issue 45

Next up? I dunno, maybe one of my random grabs from Smashwords.
