I'm going to sit down and read Dog Days for about a half-an-hour. I'm reading it in paperback, so it's rough on my eyes. It's a well written urban fantasy that reminds me of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, but the small print is a killer.

Multiple Indo/Paki/Bangladeshi places, in fact, as I'm a block above one of the areas known as Little India. Beef curry and fresh nan bread at 2am? No problem. I know where the Indian cab drivers working the night shift go...

Your TBR list will expand beyond recognition on MR, and your new quest will be extra hours in the day to read them all. Cultivating the ability to read a book with each eye is recommended.

One advantage to eBooks is that I don't worry about a need to call the paramedics if my TBR stack falls over on me...

DMcCunney, I didn't mean there wasn't anyplace for Polish food in Manhattan. I meant Polish markets, for cooking at home.
As my name indicates, I'm not a restaurant kinda guy.

And thanks for "merde"!

Though it's a lot closer to the French back when the French colonized North America than the current dialect in Paris is.

I heard a story years back about a big construction project in Montreal, where most of the workers were French speaking, and they decided to import French speaking foremen from Paris. After a while, they sent the Parisians back and hired English speaking foremen, where at least it was explicit that different languages were being spoken.

I can probably find that in Manhattan, too, but agreed: a real trip to the market requires leaving the borough.

Even with Yvan's comments about the insects, I think I'm moving!

On the other hand, three fabric shops in one small town is too much temptation, and when I worked in a different part of London I had to plan lunches carefully so as not to end up coming up on packed trains with bags of fabric

Great tip: leave cards and money at home. I always do, since I have absolutely no self-control.

The 12 stores (yeah, I was wrong, it's 12, not 10) are very hard to visit in one day - I attempted the feat once with an aunt and I had to take a break and skip one, I was overstimulated and dizzy. It's *that* bad!

Mmm a good bad, still...

It's a derivation of the word tabernacle, considered to be a swear word in Québec because in our very catholic history we pushed the commandment "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" very seriously.

(for info about our swear words - there a lot - see this wikipedia link)
