I think you ooze class, Yvan.
You're up to your ass in class.

How about just the dirty words?
Things you yell at a hockey game?

the closest thing we get to a N.Y. deli is a Cyndi's here. Love the pastrami on rye!

There was an article in the NY Times a while back about the influx of Mexicans in the food trade in NYC. One of the places profiled was a deli where the prep cook, waiters, busboys and dishwashers were Mexican.

The prep cook spent most of his day dealing with hundreds of pounds of pastrami. But around 5pm, it was staff dinner time, and he started cooking dishes from the Pueblo state in Mexico he was from. I looked at the pictures and descriptions of the dishes, and said "You know? I want to go eat there. But when I walk in, I'll say 'No, I don't want pastrami! I want to go downstairs and eat with the staff!'"

(Mexican cuisine has been called "one of the great undiscovered sauce based cuisines", and there is certainly far more to it than tacos and burritos.)

Actually I never cared for Tex/Mex or Mexican food until I moved to Tx. Its so good when you get it from an excellent source. Come to think of it, I enjoy all South American cuisine.

That's what I love about New York.
Want to try authentic ethnic food?
Pick a neighborhood.
Our street vendors have been written about in culinary magazines.
I lucked out when I moved to suburbia.
I live in one of the largest concentrations of Poles in the state.
The most respected Polish kielbasa maker in NYC is only 5 minutes away.

kielbasa is really good, When I lived in NY we were on 89 and Broadway so there was nothing really exciting there except NY itself. And that was plenty enough. But in Montreal, for a while I lived in the University Street ghetto near the lower end of St. Laurent, mostly Polish, Ukranians, Hungarians, Russians, There was a restaurant, Mazurka. Heaven on earth, pirogy, kielbasa as you say, those huge bread crumb fried veal cutlets with fried eggs on top But the thing that I miss most is the bread, dark sour-breads. Heavy and tasty. They went so well with the Canadian stuff smockey, mapled. baconey, Ah.

For Polish food in New York, you have to go to Greenpoint, Brooklyn or Maspeth, Queens.

I love pierogies. With sauteed onions and sour cream.
