Coincidentally, yogurt or sour cream would have put out the fire too! A friend of mine once forgot to put on some gloves before chopping them and her fingers burned for days poor girl. |

someone else was my first wife and my little sister. They were waiting for the things to happen to me before placing their orders. On that trip we took 18 airplanes. I was in charge of baggages. They had the important things like the tickets. Toward the end I had 10 pieces of luggage (myself only one), some of them made of rafia that scratched my legs. One of the two mononeuronics, had bought a box of sugar cubes, and put it in one of the baggages, so that when we landed in Puertorico, coming from Caracas, the men in black kept me for questioning for about 2 hours. For a half box of sugar cubes. They did not buy nothing in Puertorico, but my sister got so red by the reflex even if she stayed in the shadow of the palms on the beech that that night she was glowing in the dark, and we had to keep her under the shower most of the time. That prevented her from peeling.

My underwater garden
Only 6 weeks old, but it very quickly found a healthy equilibrium and the plants are growing like crazy. It's set up following the Walstad method (low-tech, soil beneath the gravel). I've done some much needed weeding today, and now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I haven't upset the biological balance too much. 50x25x25 cm, flourocent strip light, 15W, 4200 K 1,5 cm soil, 2,5 cm fine gravel Plants back left to right: Hydrilla verticillata (a waterweed) Heteranthera zosterifolia (Stargrass) Vallisneria spiralis A Microsorium pteropus (Java fern) to the left Floating: Ceratophyllum demersum (Hornwort) Salvinia natans Limnobium laevigatum (Frogbite) Fish & other critters: Guppies ("wild" colour) 5 Dwarf rasbora Hyalella azteca (an amphipod) Thinking about adding shrimp in the hope they might out-compete the snails (and because they're cute). Beautiful Ea - I so wanted to see a tiny frogman amidst the fronds. Must be incredibly calming just to contemplate!
![]() Showing my age here - buy anyone remember the little plastic guy - you would fill his foot with baking soda and drop him in - the water would react and generate a gas bubble - floating him to the surface? |

![]() It seems very comfortable both for fishes&critters and for plants. I mean in terms of population density of fishes. It seems like there are chances of having a population growth. |

At least 6 males, and 2 females that give "birth" every forth week. Most of the fry is eaten of course, when they are very small, but a handful survives. I assume at some point the amount of fish will reach a an equilibrium, too, but apparently not yet. It's "Darwin Live" ![]() Quote:

I started with 2,1 (male/female), and I think there's a least ten young/fry, but too young to tell their sex. Edit, added: I have had them for a couple of years. Last edited by Ea; 07-27-2010 at 10:45 AM. |
