A coffee shop is better than a bar. The ereader provides a conversation starter for someone to approach you: "Is that one of those Kindles I've heard about?"

I tried reading in a strip club once. (Make sure you bring a reading light.) Most of the girls made a trip by my table to check out the ereader and chat. Perhaps they were just miffed I wasn't watching the show.

Driving... when I was a lot younger rofl.. I seemed to think it was okay when I was driving and the road was empty - like interstate back to college sunday nights - to put a book in my lap and spend 3 secs reading and 3 secs watching the road, over and over... Oh Lord, I really didn't think of that until this thread.. How incredibly dumb and invulnerablef we thought we were.... Of course I don't do that anymore, I grew up lol... but I still keep a book in the car and read at red lights.

Little League baseball, the coach caught me reading in the dugout while we were batting.. He didn't laugh...

Like the person that read up to going in for surgery, sure... I've read to keep myself from thinking about what I"m about to have to do... eye surgery I remember... Vaguely I think every bad, scheduled event in my life.

Ouch, yeah, even though the coach didn't laugh, I sure did. He should be supporting your educational endeavors, not squelching them!

It is crazy how much liberties people take with their cars. Talking on the phone, texting, reading, fooling around. It's all so dangerous. I saw on Amazon there was this laptop shelf that fits onto the steering wheel. It got taken down pretty quick once people started making fun of how ridiculous that would be.

I've got to add a new one that just happened to me on my way home from Japan.

I was put on a plane to San Francisco at the last minute, and just shortly after takeoff I started reading. Well, there was a loud grinding noise, the lights went off, and the plane dipped. It turned out there was complete engine failure on one side after one of the turbines tore apart and shredded the rest of an engine. Everyone was deathly silent, and then we eventually dumped a bunch of fuel and returned to Tokyo airport.

So: reading during a possible plane crash.

Hey, I understand this completely! I'd have been reading all the harder, shutting that reality out!

Yeah, absolutely. That book definitely helped me make it through. There were people breaking down in the airport when we got off the plane. Most people took it ok though. Life happens. So what's going on with you two today?
