When you spend 10 hours a day in a desk chair... and you have a bad back... spending $1000 or so is well worth it. I am going to be ordering one (or 2) soon. The $50 Office Depot specials are ruining my back and my posture.

I use a #2 pencil and a marble composition notebook.
For profound writings, I use a purple fine point pen.
When I'm on the go, I use a pocket pad.

I don't like office chairs. They screw up my knees. Too low.

I just watched Agatha Christie's Appointment with Death on PBS. At the end, Poirot said something to this effect (quoted from memory):

"There is nothing so damaged, mademoiselle, that it cannot be repaired. I want you to know this; for without this knowledge, we would all go mad."

I thought this so profound; I immediately downloaded the book from Amazon to get the exact wording for use in the quotes thread. Well, guess what? There's nothing in the book even remotely similar to the line David Suchet uttered on the show.

I wonder where that line originated? with the television scriptwriters? from another Christie book? was it an ad-lib by Suchet?

All I know for sure is that I just blew $6.99 on a book to which I know the ending.

Chorded keyboards are ideal for one-handed typing. With a touch screen it's more like one or two digit typing, and constantly looking down at the on-screen keyboard to figure out where the letters are.

Those movies are adaptations from Chritie's novels...

I've seen some that had a different plot lines and where there were more characters and some that had less.

I just got through about half a day of fiddling with my desktop. It's a homebrew device, built from components, and the only original piece is the tower case, as motherboard, drives, and other components have been upgraded in place several times. It triple boots Win XP Pro SP3, Win2K Pro SP4, and Ubuntu 9.10.

Yesterday evening, it decided to spontaneously reboot several times, and made the "click click click" noises of a drive having severe heartburn. Which drive was less clear, since there are five in it. It finally reached the point of refusing to power on.

Today I unplugged it, removed it from under my desk, took it completely apart, then put it back together again, reseating and checking connections for the CPU, power supply, and drives. I was thinking unhappy thoughts about having to go the the local clone shop for a new power supply, but the rebuild seems that have cured it. I powered up straight away, successfully rebooted several times after I changed how a few drives connected, and seems to be stable and happy.

Hopefully, it will stay that way a while. I really need to build a whole new system with more recent components, like upgraded video and SATA instead of IDE drives, but right now I don't have the spare cash.

Moral of the story? Make sure the glue's dry before you sit back down on it.

I never watch television adaptations of books. They always screw them up. Agatha Christie adaptations are about as much fun as watching paint dry.

Never heard of those. I'll check 'em out. I usually lean back in a chair to type with a keyboard in my lap, which, although comfortable, isn't the best way to do two-handed typing.

I'm sure the purchase wasn't a total loss. I'll read it eventually, once I've forgotten the plot-line, which is something that becomes increasingly easier with advancing age!
