the choice to combine or not combine your library with the B&N library
support for Calibre's tags system for organization
ability to delete from the device
better dictionary integration
choice of dictionary - the Webster's pocket is pathetic
cover as screensaver
ability to reverse the page forward/back buttons in settings
ability to re-order and hide icons on the main menu

and any little tweaks that might improve battery life

I know some of these are available through soft-rooting, but I'd rather not.

Nice list. We should send it to B&N as a requirements document.

I would like to keep the My Documents section separate from the B & N Library. Tags are nice, but I would be satisfied with a search function for "My Documents". At the moment I only have approx. 1500 ebooks in this section so a basic search function would suffice.

AND...... I would like it to work better with Calibre.

That is a simple list that should be easy for them to come up with.

I wonder if the Calibre folks can play a part in this?

What I'd like, folders & swiping

I would like a "My Books" folder with cover flow, separate from "My B&N Library" and also keep a "My Documents" folder (I have more than books in "My Documents" and would like to keep them separate. Would still also like to have folders inside each folder for further custom separation.

I would also like the "swipe" feature to always be "on" on the black plastic strip above the touch screen. It works great to turn pages using that, keeping the touch screen less dirty, and I prefer that position when reading to turn pages. It's only on when the "swipe" feature is on (touch screen "off") currently. So to confirm my meaning, I'd like the "swipe" feature on the plastic to turn pages separated from the touch screen function, not that it's possible, but if it is definitely do it! (or give us a choice)

Those are my top "wants" after just a weeks of Nook ownership.

In addition to those posted by others, my wish list is as follows:

1) Provide a 2nd or more level of search in "Shop" and "my Library". It would be nice to first search by subject, then by date and then by price or author.
2) To conserve power in reading mode, provide a feature to turn off the LCD screen completely including the swipe function and/or any background monitoring/refresh of the touch screen circuit. In other words, as a user defined option, the reading mode can function in both the foreground and the background as in the sleep mode except for recognizing the turn button and refresh of the page on command.

Now I think of it more, I'd like to add a couple more items:

1) Extend the "lend me" function to more than one time.

2) Allow nook members who are on the contact list to communicate with each other via Daily. This function should be included in both WiFi and 3G.

3) Include a limited web browser also on the 3G. B&N can restrict limited access to websites such as wikipedia (same as kindle), regular B&N store and others as they will choose. I have the 3G nook but I really think the limited function of just shopping and downloading of Barnes and Noble E books doesn't justify the additional cost as compared to the WiFi. B&N can make the 3G version more competitive by adding more functions or a very basic web browser.

@afa: the old firmware had 5 font sizes and the new one adds extra extra large and extra extra small. However, those are useless to the people like me who have never used extra large or extra small. What is needed is a font size between small and medium. If they had that then even 3 sizes would be enough for me.

It would be nice to have a search function for the book titles just in case but I do not
understand why people put thousands of books on there. Unless it is the collected works of Dr. Suess, you probably won't live long enough to read even half of them. I have about 50 books on mine and I don't think I can finish them all in a year. Can anyone tell me what the logic is?

My wife is one of those people and our house if full of books. She is a professor and voracious reader. However, my take on it is that it is an indication of the American condition: you are what you have.

lol. I read more than 50 books in a year, but it's true that I have many more books than I could possibly read on my nook. I like knowing I have lots of choices at my fingertips for when I finish reading whatever I'm reading (and sideloaded books can't be downloaded from the cloud). Also, many of my "books" are really short stories or papers I'm reading for work. Also, I have a backlog of books that I purchased from Fictionwise when they were on sale, and when they are already loaded on my nook they remind me of all the books I already have--making it less likely that I'll get tempted to buy lots of new books.

Wishlist items (though I'm really happy with nook overall):

* Ability to delete or archive from my library

* Better sort options in my library (I'd love to sort by size of book & by last opened date)

* Ability to search in my library. (It would be fabulous to be able to search for a keyword within a book)

* Alerts. I'd like to be able to tag a p-book version in BN store and get an alert when the e-version is released, or tag a favorite author and get an alert when the author's next book is released as an e-book. (I guess this is more of a store wish than a nook wish.)

That screensaver = last book read thing sounds neat, too.

It would be great to me if the reader can do landscape view and PDF zoom (not font size change in re-flow). I have many journal papers with two column and PDF re-flow simply destroys the in-line equations. Landscape view would be perfect for views slides.

-word look up needs to be streamlined. Word look-up should happen within the page I'm reading.

-although a wish more than anything, I'd like to be able to have some social interaction from the Nook. (i.e. sharing highlighted passages or lines, seeing what my "friends" have notated or highlighted from their reading of the same book. Also maybe some Twitter/ Facebook interactions...

Again, these are small quibbles. Otherwise, this device is pretty much what I'vewanted/ needed.

Ditto. These are exactly the upgrades I would like to see. I would also like to be able to export my highlights/notes into a text file.

My list:
  • Combine B&N and My Library
  • Support for folders and sub-folders
  • Ability to delete documents

Overall, I am pretty happy with my device.

However, as my digital library grows, I am finding I need a better way to catalogue my books. Also, I download sites through Calibre weekly. It would be nice to be able to delete old versions when I am done with them.

I just made a post inquiring about the sub folders, but I definetly would like more file control... File deletion most specifically. So that list is a great start.

Is there any estimate for 1.5 launch date?

It depends on how fast you read. I read a couple of pages a minute on a real book. On the nook I basically click on the next-page button every 15-20 seconds or so. If I'm not busy with school or the kids, I could easily go through a book every day. When I was a junior high kid I'd check out a dozen books from the library and be done with them in a week. As it is now, about as fast as I manage is one every 2-3 days (assuming I have time to read).

Still, I don't feel the need to have a thousand books on there...but I sympathize. It would be easier than shuffling them on and off. Some organization would be nice.
