No need to be ashamed. It makes it sound awesome that you were doing it right then!

I had the same thought, sometimes, considering also that when I "confessed" my feelings to her she kept silent, and only after a couple of minutes she pulled out her earphones asking me if I had asked her something (Long & curly hair can hide the iPod's earphones SO well...).

But no, she snores when she sleeps. That time she wasn't snoring, at least

Anyway, as you see, we were meant for each other. Not.

Hi all,

my most extreme place is postiviely mundane compared to many here.

I was bushwalking in the stunning Warrumbungle National Park (a volcanic area in New South Wales in Australia) in 1976, and I took a copy of Larry Niven's Ringworld with me.

I'd been warned to take my own water because they were in drought. I just had time to set up my tent when the heavens opened and it rained so heavily it was like late evening all day. With not much to do, I was obliged to enjoy this wonderfully imaginative novel for two full days.

Each time I have returned to this extraordinary place, there has been a similar deluge.

I tell myself it is mere coincidence...

Cheers,

The ongoing war with Iraq reminds me of a bunch of well built lads beating up a small disliked kid for his lunch money and then getting gold stars for doing it. Nothing against scveteran personally, I'm sure you're a great soldier and you fight where you're told to.

Indeed. The rain of vanilla icecream, the sandstorms made of cookie... and the cold feeling of cocoa pouring on the floor...

Another one that stands out for me, not that it was any place interesting or anything was under a tree during a training exercise when I was still just a lowly PFC at ITS (infantry training school). The instructor walked by, noticed that the book I was reading was not on the Commandant's Reading List and proceeded to cut the last several chapters out of the book. I was a bit miffed !!

Of course I went on to find out that Starship Troopers and Ender's Game were on the list!!

Well, I was reading at home, late one Friday night (yes, I'm such a wild woman!)...and some loser decided he really deserved to be in possession of the money and credit cards in my wallet. And he didn't let a silly thing like a dead-bolted door get in his way - his kicked the doorframe right out of the wall.

I can't really say I was reading during a home-invasion burglary, though, as I was too busy doing a Fay Wray imitation.

Luckily for me, the loser decided my purse was enough. Also luckily for me, I was reading a dead-tree book. Because when I was cleaning up afterward, I found it on the floor beside the door.

Yes, apparently, I'd thrown it at him. Who knew? I have no memory of it (must have been all that screaming).

I just had a wisdom tooth pulled and read to the last second. Um, walking, waiting in lines, at the doctor's office, at work, at the bar with friends (which is actually pretty sad), at the gym.

That one was funny. The other day I was on the elliptical and I had my reader propped up on the display. When I looked over I saw a woman on another elliptical having a hell of a time trying to read her paperback and I started laughing. I told her about my reader and gave her the MR website address so she could check out the different readers.

I can't leave home without it; I'll go into siezures lol. There have been times I will make myself late for work by turning around and going back for my reader.

I'm trying to figure out if using an ereader at the bar would make it more or less likely for someone to get hit on. Did anyone approach you while you were reading? On the one hand, I'd probably want to respect someone's reading space, but then again if they're doing it at a bar it seems fair game to check it out and see what she's reading.

Maybe there should be a separate thread for "Best pick-up lines for someone using an e-reader."

Early-ish in my Kindle days, I was used to people approaching even if I wore earbuds in hope of reading privacy. So one day a guy approached at a coffee shop and I expected to answer Kindle questions. Turned out he was just trying to pick me up. Duh.

Yep, it happened while I was home...I had left my purse near the window, and the curtains weren't closed enough, so a loser walking past took it as an invitation for an easy buck.

I had $9.75 in my purse - had planned to hit the ATM on the way home from work, and decided it was too late and probably not safe (hah). So the $100 I would have had there was still in my bank account!

The really scary thing was that about an hour later (I found out later), a guy matching the description of the fellow who robbed me did a home invasion burglary where a couple was home. He held a gun to the wife's head and made the husband give his ATM and credit card pins, and then took their car!

So far as I know, the cops never caught him but there was a guy doing similar burglaries, who looked somewhat like my guy (I really don't have clear memories of it, so if they'd brought someone too me, I doubt I could have picked him out of a lineup)...anyway, a couple of weeks later, this guy burglarizes a cop's home...while he was home! Poetic justice, because that dude's definitely in jail now!

(Oh, and where I live is in under my avatar, and like any larger city, there are better neighborhoods and worse ones...I'm in a middlin' neighborhood!)
