New release : 2.3

We just released version 2.3 !

Here are the release notes :

Code:
    - Change: Online documentation at https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Calibre2opds updated to reflect 2.3 release.
    - Change: Removed the use of https:// style links. No longer needed as was only to get a Javascript library.
    - New: Configuration profiles to help with saving and re-using parameter sets
    - New: Compatibility mode added to allow for deviations from OPDS standard for Stanza and Trook.
    - New: Performance improvements to reduce file I/O.
Should be particularily noticeable if library on network drive.
    - New: When a step is skipped, the checkbox is now set in the progress dialog
    - New: Added script files for launching gui manually
    - New: Thumbnails now use JPEG files instead of PNG files. These tend to be much smaller.
    - New: Bug #542735 Add "All Books" under Author
'All Books' entry now listed as first entry under an author ahead of any series
    - New: Bug #557287 Catalog cross-references
Rewrote the subcatalogs engine to allow for embedded levels (happy birthday Dave ;)
    - New: ZIP install package for cases where installer does not work properly (e.g. Windows 64-bit)
    - Fix: Installer bug for setting up GUI launch on Linux.
    - Fix: Reset namespace to Atom and added the OPDS namespace as well (should solve Aldiko's problems) (related to #596358)
    - Fix: corrected a bug : when checking the "include books with no file" checkbox, a null pointer exception occured in Catalog.java
    - Fix: Problem with incorrect mime type for cover images
    - Fix: Bug #578839 The target path is not saved when using direct entry
    - Fix: Bug #592161 Generated catalog no longer works with Aldiko
    - Fix: Bug #595053 crash while generating thumbnails
    - Fix: Bug #596358 OPDS Catalog namespace must be used only for new OPDS Catalog elements
    - Fix: Bug #578298 Suppress Ratings being added to book titles
    - Fix: Bug #599770 When there are multiple formats for a book, there should be an option to only include the first one in the catalog
    - Fix: Bug #578836 Error in the "skip author page" option
With this option selected, no author page is generated, and therefore the cross-catalogs links are dead...
    - Fix: Bug #588356 Crash while generating the tags catalog (Java exception)
    - Fix: Bug #577526 Some authors listed by name, instead of by Author_Sort
I hope you'll like it !

PS - note to the moderators : is it possible to rename this thread to something like "calibre2opds - Generate OPDS and HTML catalogs from your Calibre database" ?

Cool, thanks!

I am using dropbox to host my catalog and I currently do not allow for downloading of the ebooks since I am afraid that people outside of my family will be able to download them. Is there a way to only allow certain people download ebooks?

calibre2opds does not provide any security features itself - it expects these to be implemented by whatever is hosting the catalogs and associated ebooks.

Dropbox has facilities for sharing folders/files and controlling access. Use of these may satisfy your requirement?

Dave,
Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the files have to be in the public folder of a user's Dropbox account, to be accessible through a calibre2opds catalog. It's simply that all the links are relative, and the client software needs to be able to guess the URL of a file relative to another one (e.g., a book file relative to the catalog) ; Dropbox creates "encrypted" URLs for the private files, which are not at all related to one another.
If anybody has a solution for this, I'm all ears
All best,
David.

I am just trying Calibre2OPDS for the first time. I am moving forward inches at a time but I need help for the next step. I am using 2.3 because I was having problems with tags in 2.2. Calibre is at 7.9. I have a Nook. I successfully create my catalog, download it to my Nook, see the Calibre folder, below it I seen Authors...30, Series...13 etc. The problem is that at this level (Authors, Tags, Series...) are not touch sensitive. I cannot get to the actual authors or books below this level. I have tried a variety of options and check boxes and nothing seems to make any difference. At the moment I am completely stuck. Any thoughts on what I could have done wrong? ............Jackie

Just to add to my last question. I have tested the HTML in my browser that was generated by the same run. It works great. I am really looking forward to seeing it on the Nook. I am not sure if the details are all going to come out in the small bottom screen or if Trook has access to put the information on the 6" screen which I am hoping for. Anyway, none of this will matter until I can get the links for the top level (author, tags, series etc.) to work. Help..........Jackie

Hi Jackie, welcome to this thread !
I'm happy to see that you eventually succeeded in generating a catalog for your Nook, although it's weird that it doesn't work... Which version of Trook are you using ? Did you open the local catalog (as it should be done) or an URL on the internet ?
I really should take the time to document how it works and take screenshots of the Nook... But for now I'm away from home for a week.

All best,
David.

So for Calibre2ODPS do we now need to specify Stanza or Aldiko?

For some reason Stanza isn't working on the default settings. The catalog will display but you cannot view a books details nor can you download it.

If you want to use the generated catalog with Stanza you now need to specify Stanza in the Compatibility settings. This is because Stanza does not comply with the latest release of the OPDS standard (but only an earlier draft standard) and the default is for calibre2opds to generate a OPDS compliant catalog. This has been reported to Lexcycle, so we hope that in a future Stanza release the official standard may be supported.

If this is not clear in the calibre2opds online documentation then please point out where it could be improved. (or make the change yourself as it is done as a wiki).

So you can't use both on the same catalog? That makes me a sad panda :'(

Both what? Are you looking for some particular combination?

If you mean be fully OPDS compliant and also work with Stanza then the answer is no! However the deviations are small (at the moment at least). As was mentioned hopefully Lexcycle will update Stanza to be usable with a fully OPDS compliant catalog.

David, The problem appears to be with 2.3. I tried basically the same thing with 2.2 and it works. I looked at the XML in MS Word and I could see back to back link commands with nothing between. I assume that there should have been some reference in between the two links. I can't find any way in 2.2 to only output one file type. Most of my books started life as PDFs and I then converted to epubs. In 2.2 I seem to get both the PDF and the epub copy and that blows the size of my storage on my Nook. My Trook version is the latest softroot as of 4 days ago when I downloaded it.........Jackie

Looks like Aldiko still refuses to download. :'(

Yes I'm using Aldiko compatibility mode. It lists the books fine but will not download.

Hmm...great tool! Just used it for the first time last night! However I seem to be having a problem. Now, to be fair, I may have missed a checkbox when creating the catalog and files last night, but...

I can connect to my library (dropbox) via Stanza on my iPhone. I can drill down to the book and see the book summary and cover. But I don't see anyway to download it!

Am I missing something too obvious?

Or did I maybe accidentally check the box for not creating OPDS downloads? I can't check/re-run until I get home tonight and as it was late last night when I did this for the first time, it is entirely possible that I screwed something up. I did remember to set the compatibility to Stanza...I remember that box.

Also, wow...creates a ton of files...though I think I told it to do html and OPDS and I may not do that in future.

If the book is only in a format Stanza does not undersand (say lrf), it will show the record but give you no way of downloading, at least that is what I see with any books I have in lrf only.
