Go away! Mommy's reading right now.

just kidding. I usually say "I'm on chapter 3 or whatever." But people don't bother me with my kindle near as much as they used to.

Sony's 505 has nice page numbers that compare to paperback and hardcover in "real world" pages. So some variation, but it makes it feel more like a real book to me :-D

However, no one asks me what page I'm on. They ask me if it's a kindle :-( Oh well, whatever, just get them reading electronically...

If I'm reading a real book and someone asks what page I'm on, I reply that I don't speak Chinese or English.

If I'm reading an ebook and someone asks what page I'm on, I cover my groin area and try to look deeply offended. No words needed.

Thank you I was a bit confused as my current location read 156-61 but I guess that means the page starts with paragraph 156 and displays up to 161. The range changed as I changed fonts. I wasn't sure why they didn't display the final digit so I went to paragraph 199 and it showed 199-203 so they obviously hide this digit on purpose. At least I now know what to type into the "go to location" field!

I normally get asked "how far along in the book are you?" since the Kindle displays percentages, I'll either say something like "a third of the way thru" or 28% depending on my mood.

Nobody asks me what page I'm on, but if someone had, I'd like to think I would have had the presence of mind to have said "Ellen."

I just want e-readers to be more popular so people will quit bothering me with questions about the reader. What is it? Do you like it? Where'd you get it? How much? Etc.

Now, honestly, I like talking about my reader. But, to paraphrase Ratso Rizzo: "I'm reading here! I'm reading here!"

Sometimes, I'm scared to go out in public with it for fear of interruptions. Never got that much attention with paper books...

[/rant]

Marilyn
I get that a little but usually the comment I get is, "What kind is that? Mine is a Kindle (or, occasionally, Nook)."

My favorite one - just asked the other day (I have a Pocketbook 360).

"Ooooh, is that a mini iPad?"

Sigh.

A mini iPad, AKA an iPhone??

People ask me sometimes if my Sony is a black Kindle. But I think you win with this one.

I'll worry about it when it happens. In 35 years of reading, I've never been asked even once "What page are you on?"

I tell em its none of their damn business and then I spit in their eye and slap them in the face with a glove. They usually apologize at that point. The ones (only three persons...one was a midget) that didn't got a duel at 15 paces at dawn.

{Sighs...} "Get your own copy, I don't lend my books anymore, they never come back."

I tend to be like Solitaire1, rough Percentage or chapters.

If I want to be annoying (standard mode for me),

"Go away, I'm reading the good part"

No, that's incorrect. Location numbers on the Kindle are not "paragraph numbers"; they are units of 128 bytes in the file, so you have 8 locations per 1k, 8192 locations per MB.

What do you say when asked what page you're on?

I point and say "this one".
