It's all about cucumbers folks. 5 this morning and I missed one (too hot to pick now; it will be bitter. Have to get it in the morning!)
Tomatoes are scarce in this heat. Added a shade cover since it is supposed to be 100 or near today. Wilted in Texas, Maria |

A mess, they are building a sidewalk, so they have teared down the pyracantha to be substituted by a wall, appropriated a nice cut of my property, cut the trench for the foundation and armed it. Put movable fences all over for security. Remounted the gate, quite nice, old iron work. Saved the wisteria and the 50 years old oleander, the most beautiful of the village. The councilman in charge lives on the little street beside the oleander and it annoys him and his demented wife when they come up with their pretentious cars as they have to be careful not to be invested by oncoming traffic. It's on a double slope so the demented has to do fancy clutch work. He made things up so it had to be destroyed. But I bribed the contractor (promised 100 Euro) so that the oleander is safe. A friendly councilman, he celebrated our marriage, confided to Wife that the bad guy is very upset. Joy. I'll put a small brass plate on the wall near the Oleander commemorating the event and thanking the friendly councilman for his support. Revenge.
For instance, let's imagine that the friendly councilman's name is Pier Giorgio. So the plate will be: Oleander Pier Giorgio by the name of its Saviour against the evil forces that were trying to destroy it. In Italian of course. Last edited by beppe; 07-20-2010 at 06:26 AM. |

They poured the concrete for the foundation of the wall. It is already set. Very rich. Under the wisteria where I have my eastern parlor there is enough room (a couple of feet) for meters of whatever, roses, or annuals, or lavanda even. The Oleander is full of this year offspring's (about 2 feet long). It is pink, wonderful pink. Pink poison for the bad guy and the demented clutch burner Ah! GeoffC sent me chocolate. Great. Come over for Mojito. Right now And then ravioli on an artichoke bed for the girls and garden zucchine with lox for me. The zucchine were given me yesterday by an old man that has a surplus in his garden. Lovely neighbor.

I don't have a garden, sadly. My horticultural endeavors are down to keeping my Christmas cactus alive. It's nearly 40 years old.

I have a plant I have kept since I bought it when I was 13. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out what it's called, as I haven't come across anyhting like it anywhere before or since I bought it. And they couldn't tell me what it was called either. Several others of my plants are "souvenirs" - cuttings from places I've visited. I have a pelargonium from the Faeroese historical museum for example. Whenever I travel somewhere, I try to take a cutting of something interesting home with me - unfortunately they don't always thrive in their new home - or I'm not allowed to bring them with me - and it's not that I'm above a bit of smuggling, but I also want to get home without customs issues ![]() |
