I had a chance to analyze the results of the 1,000,000th post and have concluded it could one of three posts, namely:

After a bit of detective work, I verified that:

a) from my original estimate of the 1,000,000th post (as being post1010823 with exactly 100 more posts to go)

b) we had only one Moderator post (post1010788) and no deleted posts til the posts above (yes, I checked each and every post from post1010723 to post1010824! I got you guys into this mess, and I felt it my duty to settle the score!)

c) thus the revised estimate of the 1,000,000th would have been post1010824 at the time of that milestone ( I would have watched for it, but it was at almost 3 AM my local time and I was in la-la land )

So, the winner of the 1,000,000th post, as determined by me, is montsnmags posted at July 16, 2010, 02:36 AM EST in the Thread Every Day's a Holiday! as Post #1201 therein!

I'm guessing the millionth post was really by Adrian who was spoofing Marc's account and trying to start an argument in the iPad forum about how many bananas could fit on the head on an iPad (before the bananas baked from the iPad overheating from too much sun, etc., etc., etc.).

If you look at the image I attached to my explanation of the 1,000,000th post you will see a list of the posts around the time of the event. Using FizzyWater's posting of the 1,000,002th post brings it back to her previous post or Marc's. Dreams was my original gestimate, but these things are subject to human interpretation so I could be off by a few.

The method I used to predict that post number was alluded to before, but I'll repeat it here:

1) With two tabs/windows opened in your browser, go to the Forums page and Forum Spy page in each window respectively.

2) Wait for it to settle and quickly refresh each tab/window

3) Wait for an extened time and repeat step 2)

4) If the results are the SAME, then open the top-most post in the Forum Spy page and note it's post number.

5) Then go to the Forums page (without any refreshing this time) and note it's Post count.

6) Now do that math and you get you're predicted post number for the 1,000,000th post i.e. 1,000,000-Post count+Forum Spy Post number!

However, there could be some posts that "slip in" while I'm waiting in steps 2-4 or the Forum page and Forum Spy page could "lag" each other in which case my gestimate won't be right.

But, I would think Alex has access to ALL the relevant data to make this call and settle/certify it. We should wait for their valued input, especially if they are going to show up at the winners door with a Sweepstakes-like prize ("Hello, MR poster, you've just won a Million dollars"... )
