Wow, that orange...was ORANGE. Yikes!
Next on the reading pile for me is quite a bit outside my norm--paranormal romance (I read a lot of urban fantasy, but not much romance, but that is what shows on the spine of the book.) I won the book. It's A Curious Affair by Melanie Jackson I don't know if it's available in eformat or not! There's this cute little phrase: "Cat got your ear?" on the cover. And a picture of a cat. No idea what this is about. |

I just bought:
No Irish Need Apply (Ed Patterson) Mud and Gold (Shayne Parkinson) Dark Matters (Ryan Williams) Tell No Lie, We Watched Her Die (Richard Sanders) The Second Coming (David Burton) My Blood Approves (Amanda Hocking) A Shunned Man (Thea Nilsson) Cameo the Assassin (Dawn McCullough White) Resurrection, Inc. (Kevin Anderson) Parable of the Forgotten (Simon Fenn) ... all books that caught my eye on Smashwords recently. All indie, too, except Resurrection, Inc. - not sure if that's KJA's personal imprint or a publisher. And from Baen: Against the Odds (Elizabeth Moon) Farmer in the Sky (Robert Heinlein) Farnham's Freehold (Robert Heinlein) The Ship Who Saved the Worlds (Anne McCaffrey) *droooooooool* But right now, I'm reading Bardic Voices: The Lark and the Wren (Mercedes Lackey). I like her work - light, fun to read without being too fluffy. And I had to chuckle at the use of 'Tonno' for the name of a music teacher - 'tis Italian for tuna... tuner... get it? ![]() |

At work we have a Sicilian guy, by the name of Salvatore (the Savior), affectionately called Totonno by us non-Southerners, who might shrink it to Tonno. Some go down to Toh. One or two refer to him with the tiniest lowering of the eyelids, exactly like Don Vito Corleone (both Brando and De Niro). At the same time unscrutable and expressive. ![]() Last edited by beppe; 07-15-2010 at 11:38 PM. |

In addition to everything I'm reading already (Seneca - bought the book this morning btw, Olivier Rolin and China Miéville), I suddenly had an urge to read some light romance and bought Undead and Uneasy, book 6 of the Queen Betsy series. I was amused to read that a character is stuck in Paris because there are riots and all planes are canceled. I suppose that's a reference to the 2005 riots in the suburbs, but I'm pretty sure they didn't affect air traffic. Otherwise, I have a feeling the quality of the books is declining in this part of the series (I already had a similar feeling when I read #5), especially they are not as laugh-out-loud funny. But still a nice easy read for a summer holiday

They are working in my property and the guy handling the excavator is from Partinico, hometown of Frank Zappa and of few famous men of influence. He talks to me and I answer him a la Godfather and he is perfectly at ease with it. Yesterday there was a couple of kids with Australia written all over them with big baggages in the metro, obstructing the door. Nicely though. They were going to the train station for the Airport which is also my stop. I passed them saying sorry mate and he looked at me like I was from Mars. Power of frequenting Marc and you Aussie kids. Big smile. Ciao |

Just finished Jasper Fforde's "Shades of Grey" - an odd book - wildly inventive yet based in fact (Munsell was real, as was his numeric code for colors) - slap stick funny but with very somber undertones - this is a futuristic wacko society based on color perception - that kills its members for not preserving stasis. The first volume of a trilogy. Very odd.

I tell you what it was the most boring drivel I've ever had the displeasure of reading or hearing in my life, bar none! We tried several "years" different authors. Once in a while a story was "okay" but not a one got above that bar. I mean this was serious drivel and when it wasn't that it was violent and disgusting. One of the longest stories meandered so badly we thought there was something wrong with the CD! Horrible. Maria |
