To follow up, and to put in a good word for Pocket Book and Pocket Goods (the German distributor), I now have a replacement for my defective PB 360 running 14.2, and I haven't had a single spontaneous reboot (which was the problem). So if this continues -- knock on wood -- all is well. Good customer service!

Did they ever say what the exact problem was? Mine reboots, crashes and freezes regularly, but I assumed it was a software issue (even though it was with 14.2 and 15.2). |

No, Harry, I said that in a pique of frustration, but I am still knocking on wood because I have only been using it for a few days. When I have used it for at least a year (or two, since that is the length of the guarantee) with no problems, I will be more effusive in my praise of the device for doing what it is supposed to do and for which I paid 239 euros!
Indecisive, no they didn't tell me what was wrong with the other device. The replacement came with 14.2 installed. I had retrograded to 14.2 on the old one but the problems continued, so I guess it was in fact a hardware problem but I have no idea. The rebooting you are experiencing sounds like exactly what I had, so if I were you I would send it back for a replacement. |

Is there any word on the new firmware for the 360? There was a mention of mid-July and here we are

I've been wondering about that, too, but I'm afraid to ask because my 360 is currently functioning flawlessly (with 14.2) since I had it replaced. Have you done that, or is it a problem in Australia?

I think that it is well over two weeks since I experienced any glitch. |

It's not a problem in itself, but I do need to ship it back to the US for any service or repairs. I can live with the reboots, crashes and freezes for now. I'm hoping that will all disappear with the new firmware. 14.2 froze four times in about three weeks for me, I never tried 15.1, and 15.2 reboots, crashes or freezes at least a couple of times a day. 15.3 (or whatever they call it) must be better than that. If not, then I'll seriously consider sending it in.

They are the ones, after all, who made the 14.2 release. They are also ones that designed a system that is highly configurable and easily hackable. At this very moment I have been using 15.2 without any hitch for about 3 weeks. Please ask GiK to document any changes and improvements of the new firmware against the "gold standard 14.2". The other day I have noticed that if you turn the reader 180 degrees manually the book is not repaginated. I consider that an important feature and yet, I have not noticed it on the list of changes against 14.2 Such a list could also be a great selling point. |

Pardon me for saying so, but I would urge GiK, whoever or whatever that is, to concentrate on stability. I know people have different desires, but really, wrist-page-turning and autorotation should be way down the list of priorities. The single most important thing is that you can put stuff into the reader that you want to read and that you find the place where you left off reading and keep reading without any problems. If my 360 continues to do that for another two years, I will be quite satisfied, and if it doesn't nothing else matters.

By turning by 180 degrees I did not mean using the "wrist pageturn version of FBReader, so called fbreader180" I meant then you turn the device upside down so you can turn the pages with the use of the other hand. When I did this in 14.2 firmware the green led went on and stayed on for considerable time as the device repaginated book. Firmware 15.2 does not seem to do that. But this might be improvement of the version of fbreader I am using, now that I think about it. When I talked about a complete list of changes against 14.2 I meant a list of perhaps 30 items, telling us what they improved on firmware, so we can start using new features. I believe such a list already exists as a part of an internal development documentation. Developers have to keep track on what they do. |

kacir, MDMorrissey comes burnt from a previous troublesome device. I'd be quite anxious about stability too if I had experienced such trouble with my device as he did with his.
