Now, walking and chewing gum at the same time is an entirely different matter . . .
They're progressive bifocals you have to readjust your head position at each focus change. Quite annoying. You need quick reflexes when doing read walking otherwise something might spoil your experience like missing an obstacle and dropping the reader, or taking a bus... Full face!

Oh, I get it.

I tried that kind of bifocal a few years ago. Couldn't stand them. Like you said, I had to keep moving my head instead of just my eyes. Horrible experience. Very unnatural.

Yes. And worse still, everything looks curved through them unless you're placed at a certain angle. It interferes with my work. I'm building two table tops and they always look warped...

I take them off once in a while. For short pieces I use special boards we call straight edges.

There are tricks in the trade that come from periods way before the luxury of using glasses. Unfortunately, companies frown on things and methods THEY have not invented.

Bifocals can be a great ego booster. I remember the first time I used a urinal while wearing them. Looking down, I thought, "Oh My God! I've tripled in size!"

On the way home this morning I passed a sign that said it was 86⁰ already at 8:00 A.M. I thought, "That can't be right," and then the announcer came on the radio and said it was 90⁰ in our neighboring city of Norfolk.

By the way, we pronounce it the same way here as I've heard the English pronounce Norfolk. And I don't mean "nor-folk" or "nor-fick". If the following school chant makes no sense to you, you're pronouncing it wrong:

.....We don't smoke!
.....We don't drink!
.....Norfolk! Norfolk!


There's a possibility of t-storms this afternoon.
