I agree with Nikkers. First book was FANTASTIC and I was so excited to read books 2 & 3. Then I read them. Then I read the next 2 thinking, it HAS to get better. Only they didn't.

So this book is her last chance for me. From the previews though, it seems like she continues her foray into alternate history/political theory with a small dash of dragons. If that is the case, I am through with her :-(

As for the 6th book I find it a bit slow. And I agree, the first one was the best.

I've finished it, and I thought it was a little difficult to follow who was who, and follow the politics of the colony. And the story was a little thin overall. I'd say it was so-so.

I'm not sure which of the previous ones I thought was best. The first was good with the establishment of the universe, meeting the dragons and so on, but I definitely liked 2 and 3 as well - and the one that takes place in the deepest, darkest Africa (with the Tswana tribe) no. 4 I think..? That was so much fun. Real boys' adventure story.

I wonder a little how much more it could be about dragons than it is? As far as I can see, the dragons plays a huge part of the stories.

Just finished it, and I must say that of all 6th book this is by far the most boring. Nothing big happended throughout the whole book. I agree Ea the book when they're in the deepest of Africa was a very good read.

Came across this funny "one star" review on Amazon:
Quote:
This book should be renamed: How to Cook Kangaroo and Boil Water in the Australian Outback.

Yes, there was not much of a story. Just that endless chase through the desert without a big climax. Sea serpents were put to good, new and interesting use. For lack of action, the story could have focused more on politics - but didn't. It all felt rather fragmented.

I'd still buy the next book though- and I think it's time for a re-read of the previous books

I will also buy the next book and reread some of the previous titles first. My biggest mistake for the 6th book was perhaps to not have the others fresh in memory. I would have appreciated a short summary from book 5 as an introduction in book 6.

Spoiler:
It doesn't help when the book starts off in Australia. What happened with the journey over to Australia. Surely that journey could have been more elaborated upon than just finding them there. Big disappointment. As far as I recollect from the end of book 5 they were just on their way to start the sea voyage.

I completely agree. I couldn't quite remember who everyone was.

Spoiler:
I don't know. I think it was okay - I just assumed nothing special had happened, and since we've already had several descriptions of sea voyages, it might have been boring.
