After sales service of bookeen suggested a very easy solution and it worked. Computer desktop icon, Right click on Opus, Format. That's it. I didn't think about it. Kudos

Just out of curiosity, how ELSE did you try to format the device?

Windows explorer, right click on device in the folder tree, format. Doesn't work, it disconnects on the fly. Don't ask me why.

Hm. It´s true, Win sometimes refuses to format (or eject, for that matter) a USB-device from folder tree, or if an explorer window with folder tree is still open. Usually because it still accesses the device.

I installed and used Calibre succesfully for converting pdf's to epub, thanks to the hints of this great forum.
So far so good, until I tried to upload a pdf, I didn't realise it was in raster format (500 mbytes). Basicly a scanned version of the book itself.
The upload froze, and then I tried to disconnect the device. Unfortunately, the file got "appended" and "corrupt" as did my "Ebooks" folder on the device.
Opus was no longer able to access it, and hanged each time it was switched on. I solved, by accessing it through Windows Explorer and renaming it to a bogus name.
Now the device is working, but I lost the 500mbytes which were taken in the FAT for the pdf. The file is 0 bytes long, it can't be deleted, and 500mbytes are missing because of a corrupt FAT.
I tried to format the Opus, by copying the system, ebooks and digital editions folders off the device, and invoking format FAT32 in Windows Explorer. When I try to do that, the device automagically disconnects from the USB devices, like if it was protecting itself from being formatted.

Anyone knows if I'm doing it right, and if there's a way to circumvent this behaviour?
You have/had an older version of the firmware, (ie 1.9) your internal memory has been corrupted by bugs on this version, you updated the firmware, but the corruption was not corrected, and if a scandisk/fsck/chkdsk does not correct the problem, you have to reformat it.

But be SURE that you have at least a 1.5/2.0 version of the firmware or else the problem will not be solved.
