Rumor has it that if you download the app NOW, you get the books in the app. Mine had just the five public domain free books tho (it shipped on the Kobo; also, it kept locking up and crashing the Kobo, eventually deleting the 100 free books that came with it; now I try to run it only if the Kobo is not attached and use Calibre or ADE to load books, instead).

Borders won't even let my mom set up an account, as it doesn't like her phone number (yes, she is in the US). Of course, she really wants one of the books (so may have to read my copy, as I managed to get all five into my library and downloaded, although I haven't done more than scan thru the first few pages to see that there was a book included and not just an excerpt).

When I tried to fill in my phone number, it said that it wasn't valid, so I took out the -'s and just typed all 10 numbers in a row. Then, it worked. But, I didn't buy the freebees because they had the full price listed. I'll give it another try, since someone said that once in the cart, the price went to $0.

I tried getting "One Shot" last night, but it wouldn't go through past the billing page. Just kept saying, "Your order cannot be processed at this time, please try again later." Now it's back to full price (putting it in my cart did nothing).

I love Borders, but damn, this sucks.

I am having the same problem. Cannot download any of these free ebooks at all! I keep getting that same message "Your order cannot be processed at this time, please try again later." Which is very annoying, especially on through the iPad app, b/c it makes me enter all my credit card information, then tells me it cannot be processed. Server is down, maybe? I am frustrated from all the repeated attempts to download.

Be sure and check your library if you're getting error messages. I kept getting errors last night, but in checking my account they're all there.

I've been getting "We were unable to process your order. Please try again." All day. I've tried on the iPhone app and on the Kindle for Mac app. It isn't in my library under my account - it says I've placed no orders. I've tried the Julia Child book and the Jillian Michaels book, even the Frankenstein (which I probably wouldn't read - just wondered if that one would work). Already have the other two from Kindle and B&N (both were free when I got them). Frustrating.

As I said on another thread - not ready for prime time? I did send an e-mail through the customer service area. I'll keep trying, but I'm not impressed. Not crazy, either, about how you get redirected from the Borders app on iPhone to Safari.

Even if you are successful, you won't see any orders on the account page. I don't even see my Kobo there (nor did I get any reward points, let alone double, or the $20 gift card and calling only resulted in a $10 rewards credit, which is not the same, at all). Apparently that only tracks "books". Ebooks appear instead on the ebook library page (which they did at least finally add a link to on the main ebook page, it appears).

I would wait until Monday; it's obvious that their email support doesn't work weekends (and even if they did, their technical folk may require several days to fix it, as they are now at a week on supposedly fixing the issue with the other non-PD free books).

As for being routed to Safari - not their fault. It's required by Apple. No app can have the store inside it, but must use Safari for purchasing new content. Kindle users have gotten used it.

And my ebook library page, when it isn't "temporarily unavailable", which it has been on and off, continues to show 0 items. Maybe temporarily unavailable means they're working on things. I'll just keep trying & hope they get things fixed by the 14th. Not that I don't have more books than I could possibly read in this lifetime already....

True about the Kindle app and I just never paid attention - I suppose because they don't call attention to it.

I did get an e-mail back from Borders customer care this evening:

"I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced while attempting to download an eBook. You have to go to www.borders.com to get the eBooks for free, you can't go through the applications or you will be charged. Unfortunately, at this time the books are not showing up as free. We have forwarded this issue to our technical team and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Please check back in a few days. If you are still unable to download the free eBooks you will need to call Borders Customer Care at 800.770.7811 for assistance with your case"

This is odd because they show as being free on the applications, the order just won't go through. Ah well, hopefully they'll get their act together quickly, this isn't leaving a good first impression with those of us who are having issues.

I'm starting to feel like I'm falling into the "I'm entitled" trap - I want my freebies and I want them NOW!!!

I went to Borders.com and had no problems getting it (one shot). Reopened my app and it downloaded instantly. So I'm happy now
