It would be nice if it was possible to pick your choice of icons -- new, old, do-it-yourself.

Sure it is, just run from source and overwrite the icon files (they're in the source tree)

If I had my 'druthers, I'd stick with the old ones...not enough to figure out how to 'run from source', mind you. I'll get used to these. They're a bit dark in my laptop, though.

I like 'em. Even the Save to Disk icon, which I don't understand. But I like it! It's shiny.

Perhaps calibre is taking a bite out of the available space?

It appears that the save to disk icon is not being rendered correctly on windows for some reason. This is what it should look like

You can't, it's something I'm playing with right now. My current ideas are

1) Have two toolbars like in the screenshot. You will be able to set whether to have the second at the top or the bottom

2) Have only one toolbar with the location view (the place where you can switch between library and device views) hidden, unless a device is connected.

your #2: I like the idea of getting back the screen space when no device is connected. Might I suggest that a simple text string "Library: 441 books" be added to the Status bar at the bottom when it is hidden.

Make the tool bar appropriate to the current context.
eg,
You don't need a "Add books" (unless it is get from reader) or "Convert" button in Reader view. Reduce the 'unused clutter' when possible.

Oh, and everything on one toolbar, including Jobs/Cover-Browser/Tags, and no notification line, would work for me: 20inch widescreen.

But it's working fine now, of course.
