I understand an american remake is potentially in the works for a 2012 release date. It will be hard to match the Swedish one though.

I always have mixed feelings about watching movie adaptations of books that I like. One of the few that I thought was absolutely accurate was the mini-series of Lonesome Dove. Watching that was almost like reading the book again to me.

(Have I mentioned that Lonesome Dove is probably my favorite book in the world?)

I don't know what is going on with the living under a rock and the movies stuff...I just started reading

http://www.bewrite.net/mm5/merchant....egory_Code=HUM

Allkazzam by Daniel Abelman

This is one weird book. There's a lot of characters with hard-to-pronounce names and some foreign language words here and there...I had to read the opening segment twice. The first time I had no idea what it was, then when the chapter started, I got it and went back to re-read it. The long descriptions are peppered with humor and the story is doled out with a lot of hints...it does jump around quite a bit. This is one that is definitely not a "western" setting (which means I'm missing some of the humor and getting some of it late.)

It's...interesting so far.

Quake, what did you think of "Blockade Billy?" I've never read Stephen King but that sounded interesting.

Haven't read Blockade Billy but, if you want to try Steven King, I'd recommend The Stand or It for a start.

I have The Stand, just haven't started it yet (big book!). The premise of Blockade Billy sounded really interesting though.

It was a cool story. I wouldn't say it's the best introduction to King's work though, it's very short and doesn't have a lot of meat to it. You can tell where the story is going about halfway in if you catch the clues. Regardless, it only takes about an hour, or less to read, so if the premise sounds good to you, go for it. I'm just glad I bough the Kindle version, but even at $5 I feel a little bit cheated because of the length.

Just finished it, I'm not sure if it's going to spoil the 3rd season of True Blood for me or not, but it was a good read. I decided to read "A Touch of Dead," the collection of Sookie Stackhouse short stories, before starting on book four.

I'll second that, recently read the full unabridged version of *The Stand* and thoroughly enjoyed it - unlike some (most!!) of his later work.

And I'll third Rog. I do think, though, that SK's 'Misery' is too often sadly overlooked ... what a tale, what characters! Neil

Although they use mostly the same characters and some of the same big events, the Sookie Stackhouse books don't correlate with the storyline that True Blood takes. I've read a couple of interviews with Charlaine Harris and she's okay with that, and I think looks forward to seeing in what direction the tv series will go! (I say mostly the same characters because there are a couple of main characters in the tv version that don't even exist in the books.) Anyway, you can safely read the books without knowing what's going to happen on True Blood. And I think you should -- they are such a fun read!

If you like that genre, try the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I just finished it, and was surprised that I liked it just as well as the Sookie series. Because werewolves are hot.
