This is strange. I went to buy it on Amazon, and it is "currently unavailable" to people in the U.S. I was able to get it from Fictionwise, and since I already had it on my wish list there it was no big deal, but this is the first time I've run into a geographic restriction on Amazon as someone with a U.S. account.

Edit: I worded that badly. I understand that geographic restrictions can work in any direction, I just meant that this is the first time I have personally come up against one. I understand that for people in some parts of the world it can be a huge stumbling block in trying to buy e-books from Amazon.

It's not bad, but some parts seem to drag. Do you agree?

I'm only 28 pages into it. That's ePub pages converted from the MS Reader version.

So far it seems to be standard military training so far. But I am hoping it picks up after that.

The third books is good, but it does leave enough hanging that you do want to get onto the fourth book.

Some parts in the first half were a bit slow. But as you got into the mystery more and the girl was brought on board, it did pick up.

Reading some of Elizabeth Peter's Vicky Bliss series of cosies. They're... light, readable fluff; but I'm unlikely to re-read them. Or get anything else by her.

I wouldn't say I gave it up entirely, I just don't feel like reading it right now, so I left it for another time. And I have nothing against the story or the pacing, it's the quality of the writing that I don't find so good. Readable, but not very good.

Can only say I agree. Bland prose, dull story. Not bad, just very ... "beige"

How is the second book? I read Altered Carbon and liked it but never went on with the series.

I am finishing An unlikely spy, the first book by Daniel Silva. Well written, (not being of English mother tongue my judgement on this aspect might be fuzzy), a classical spy story. In a scale of ten I would give it 8. I think I will buy more by him.

I'm reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest". I've read the first two books of the trilogy and I'm hooked. I've also seen the first two movies. I have the third one already, but I like to read the books first.

I must live under a rock or something, because I had no idea there were movies!

They are Swedish movies subtitled and released in North America. The first one came out in the spring and the second one is hitting the big screen today. Very accurate adaptations, the characters look, feel and act as you expected them to (or at least as I expected them to) after reading the books. Good reviews on both one and two. Not sure when three is due to be released.

I understand an american remake is potentially in the works for a 2012 release date. It will be hard to match the Swedish one though.

What's wrong with living under a rock? Mine is very comfortable (though I wish it had air conditioning right now ).
