New to Calibre and Kindle

Hi All -
I have been browsing this forum trying to learn more about how to best use Calibre with my K2i but I haven't been able to find the exact information I am looking for.

1) Can someone explain, step-by-step, how to import & and edit the metadata of Amazon DRM (Kindle) titles. a) Then how to I get this information back to my Kindle without the file being invalid? b) Is there anyway to update the metadata without loosing my annotations or notes?

2) I also have a lot of non-DRM titles. Again a similar question. Is there anyway to update the metadata without having a "new" book added to my Kindle?
