Device: Kobo Libra 2
Bricked device after update

Hey there!

Wondering if anyone has an idea on how to fix this. Kobo support has no solution but have me buying a new device.

I've been using Koreader for a while now and after purchasing a remote and not having it work with koreader, I decided to go back to the original Kobo (keeping koreader on it.) I tried updating and my device went into the three dot screen that doesn't want to budge.

Every time I try to do a manual reset (holding only the power button) or a factory reset, it ends up having the LED flash/screen flash and returning to the three dots. The device does not want to go into the "powered off" screen. My computer does not recognize the device when I plug it in.

You can open the device, carefully remove the waterproofing layer over the SD card slot, and remove the SD card. Request a Libra 2 image in the image thread, write the image to a new SD card, and then insert the new SD card. In theory, this should bring your Libra 2 back to life.

But you have to be very careful. The SD card has a layer of waterproofing on it that needs to be able to be removed.

This has happened my Libra 2 as well, flashing a new image on a new SD card has brought it back to life.

I've ended up installing an older firmware version on it though because the newest firmware version kept turning wifi and bluetooth on automatically, resulting in a massive battery drain.
