Install is on Endeavour OS (Fork of Arch Linux) using:
Code:
sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin This morning, Calibre opens but does not display anything in preview pane when editing. it just displays in pane 'Loading preview, please wait....' When trying to view e-book, it just sits there forever, trying to load book. I have tried re-installing the program and restoring the database, all to no avail. Other functions seem to be working OK I am not running it in sudo mode. Any ideas? Regards, Roger |

Works fine on my up-to-date Arch system. Most likely some Wayland specific breakage with Qt WebEngine on your distro. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb and you should be fine.

Hi, there!
Thank you for your quick reply. I have sorted it out, but don't really know why I am having problems with the wget install. I deleted the current wget install and firstly reinstalled it with with the flatpak. That worked perfectly. I then removed the flatpak and installed it from the official Endeavour OS repositories. That also worked perfectly, so I'll stick with it. Like I said, I don't know why the wget install fails. Regards, Roger |

You should never install calibre from any repository. It usually will cause all sorts of problems. Get it from the official calibre site.

Did you not read the original message????
The wget download fails to run properly, not showing any preview, or view of ebook. What good is the website download for me if it doesn't work? |

No, it means that the current version of Calibre won't run, when everything else does.
Stop being a Linux snob and realise that the vast majority of Linux users just want something that gets the job done. I have neither the time, nor desire to search through things to satisfy the requirements of this one application, especially when the repo version works perfectly. |

Most Linux distro copies are only updated when the distro was released.
(there are a few that ARE current) The really bad ones, tamper with the repository version without the extensive testing the official version goes thru. "We know how to do it better" ![]() As I gather from posts, many issues with the official release is simply a package needed was removed from the distro and can be taken care of with an sudo apt-get . |

I'm not talking about Windows. There is something wrong with the OPs setup that need to be fixed.
I suggest stopping everything that runs when the system starts and try that. Also try safe mode if there is such a thing. Another thing to try is to install the same version of the OS on a flash drive and boot from that and see if calibre then works. If it does then it's something installed on the system that's the problem. All of this means that the OP needs to have the official version of calibre installed from the official site to do these tests. |
