Replacing Kindle firmware entirely

Hello.
I got an ewasted Kindle KT2 for free and would like to know how to go about replacing the Amazon Kindle “firmware” (5.12.2.2) with a standard Linux distro. I love Debian.

I’ve seen the method of chrooting and running Alpine Linux inside a window on the Kindle firmware, but I think it would be more efficient to replace it outright.

(Also, this Kindle was thrown out because the micro USB port broke. I soldered some wires and have it charged up with my benchtop PSU. Does anyone know a replacement port I can buy from DigiKey, etc?)
