Problems moving

Hi there,

I am running Calibre on a Mac and want to switch to Linux. Installation of the Linux version went fine, also I could copy the "Calibre" folder from the Mac to the Linux machine to have my settings also in the new computer.

I then exported all Calibre data from the Mac but could not import them into the Linux Calibre as there is no top menu bar like the Macs have and thus no according option.

Also: The one book Calibre comes with, is the Calibre introduction. When I opened it in the Linux Calibre, the book's metadata did not show the fields I added manually on my Mac version.

My two questions would be: How can I import my books into the Linux version and will the extra fields I added show up too?

Thanks for helping!

IF you MAC library is empty
Calibre NOT running

Just copy the entire contents of your Library folder to the Calibre_Library folder (or what ever name it is)
A the custom stuff is in the DB (and JSON)

Thanks - I did that and everything went out good. I was more curious about the export feature of the Mac version and the lack of the import feature in the Linux version. Also the missing custom fields made me a bit nervous. But they are there too.

The export and import feature is present in the Linux version.

It's a lot easier to just copy the entire library directory then it is to export/import.

The toolbar is configurable via the Preferences -> Toolbars & menus option. So you can customise the toolbar to suit how you work.
The key sequence Ctrl + P opens Preferences if you ever loss the Preferences icon from the toolbar.
And finally if the toolbar has too many icons to display on screen, at the very far right of the toolbar you will see a small icon showing ">>", click on that to expand the toolbar so it will display all the icons across multiple rows.

Just curious as to what Linux version you installed? The one from the distribution's repository, or the one from the calibre web site.

Hi Team, I want to move all my "old" stuff from my Laptop to my desktop.
I have successfully data exported to a USB stick, but when i go to import it wont let me as my library is not empty.

I am getting rid of the laptop due to no use and have been using my desktop for a while.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Have you tried renaming the library created when you installed calibre on your desktop? Close calibre, locate the library directory and rename it. If you have books in it you could then use the Use the previously existing library at the new location option in Switch/Create library.
