Who woulda thought: 98.6 is the perfect temperature

ScienceDaily (Dec. 22, 2010) — Two researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have found that our 98.6° F (37° C) body temperature strikes a perfect balance: warm enough to ward off fungal infection but not so hot that we need to eat nonstop to maintain our metabolism.

"One of the mysteries about humans and other advanced mammals has been why they are so hot compared with other animals," said study co-author Arturo Casadevall, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of microbiology & immunology at Einstein. ... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...1222121610.htm |

Glad to see another Science Daily fan! I also found this fascinating, I wonder if this is why we suffer so badly in extreme cold and heat, not just feeling uncomfortable but an increase in diseases. And another question - it's going to be 43C here today (about 109F), this must place a lot of strain on our body's ability to maintain this ideal temperature.
