New Kindle oasis on way?

I don't know what JSWolf thinks he's seeing. My banner has one slide for a "Ready to upgrade" discount on the Kindle Paperwhite. The other four slides are for other products/promotions. The Voyage isn't there, either, nor are any of the Fire tablets. But I do see an Oasis ad a bit down the page, in the "related to items you've viewed" section.

Oh that was a paperwhite. Mine just said Kindle.

I don't know about other countries (and banners), but it doesn't look very good on Amazon.it: while the page for the Oasis still exists, but there are no readers on sale except a couple of used ones from the Warehouse deals, and no hint of when it will be available again.

And even in the States, stock has seemed to be limited. For awhile, black was the only color available. Now you can get two colors. But considering the global picture, something is clearly up. I guess we'll soon see if the Oasis is getting replaced or repealed. I'm hoping for a 7.8" model with a similar form factor as the Oasis. Amazon has seen the Aura One and knows they can do it better.

I don't think it has a darn thing to do with the Oasis.
We had 3 colors of covers. Merlot, Walnut and Black. My guess would be that Amazon ordered more black covers than the other two figuring the black would sell best. (Either that or they ordered more black because they were cheaper to make.)(My understanding is different fabrics. Someone please let me know if I have that wrong.)

I don't see Amazon jumping to a 7.8" screen. They tried a larger screen and it didn't work out so they gave up and stuck to 6". If Amazon did go larger, I'd think it would be a 6.8" screen.

Amazon announced the Kindle Oasis on April 13, 2016, and it was released on April 27, 2016 worldwide.

In Canada it seems pretty dead. Out of the menu, out of any bars. Searching for it puts the voyage and paperwhite ahead. The Oasis's page lists it as currently unavailable.

The mobile site seems to have removed it from the comparison section on the Kindle Voyage or Paperwhite, although it still seems to be there on the desktop site.

I think in Canada at least it's dead.

The Kindle DX's 9.7" panel was a good bit larger than the 7.8" one that E-ink has out now. And with the Oasis form-factor, you'd have a far more compact device than the KDX. So I don't see the 7.8 as "too big" for Amazon.

But yeah, maybe they just bump it up a small amount. Even the 6.8 would be a nice little improvement for my aging eyes!

But one thing Amazon is very far behind is in fonts and font sizes. They fonts Amazon has is very limited and the fonts designed for reading are a bit light.

Amazon should take several pages from Kobo and give many more font sizes and more fonts with the ability to change the weight and to side load your choice of fonts.

As for a larger Kindle, I do think for Amazon that 7.8" is too large and 6.8" would do well.

We know (because Mr Bezos has publicly said so) that Amazon make no profit from the PW - it's sold at cost. If, as seems extremely likely, the Oasis is sold at a profit, it's still a revenue stream for Amazon, which the PW is not.

Could it just be that with the Oasis Amazon decided that e-reader penetration had reached a level that no longer required Amazon to use it as a lose leader? Hence, we should no longer expect any inexpensive Kindles since they have to contribute to Amazon's bottom figures.

Amazon Germany - also currently unavailable. Only 1 Merlot and 1 Black - both used from Amazon warehouse deals..... Darn, and I was saving up for an Oasis!
