Doesn't anyone like McDonald's coffee? It's cheaper, there's free WiFi and plenty of seating.

There have been a lot of coffee threads lately. Someone needs to arrange a meetup at a coffee shop. Its been a long time since we all got together.

McDonald's AND coffee in the same sentence... nah, contradiction in terms...

I love McD's coffee - the real stuff and not the fancy stuff.

What's so special about them?
I guess if you got a chip on your shoulder you could say the same thing about pick-up truck drivers(who don't use them for work), smugly filling up their 50 gallon tanks.

How about Seattle on a cold, drizzly winter day along the waterfront sipping a hot cup of clam chowder?

While I don't agree with the attitude, I guess I sort of understand the faith in their divinely appointed 'specialness' in a young stock trader or lawyer eaning a half million+ dollars a year, I DON'T understand the same atitude in the staff in those places. They are STILL just waiters eaning minimum wage with no benefits.

What's so special about them?
Because they get to be near 'us' of course. And isn't it benefit enough that I let them touch my Centurion card?

And as far as the "smug, self satisfaction on the faces of, well everyone..." those are just masks we all wear to keep out the dumb, the poor, and the dirty.

Winter? That could describe just about anytime between ... I dunno ... October and June?

I very rarely patronize coffee shops - I'd rather read with a beer instead. Better class of people, too (at least here).

I knew Starbucks was big, but didn't realize just how big. They have almost 17,000 stores in 50 countries, nearly $11 billion in revenue, almost $1 billion in income, and about 137,000 employees.

Someone obviously likes the stuff.

And this is after closing stores and cutting back staff.
