That just feels like a borked/incomplete MRPI install.
Check if there's an actual MRPI log created (in a log folder in the extensions's own folder, IIRC), and if not, KUAL's own logs (/tmp/KUAL.log, IIRC. You'll need a shell). ---- EDIT: And/or, possibly, an outdated bridge. Try to run the hotfix again, and then reboot *twice*. |

Thanks for your (super fast) reply. I didn't run the hotfix because of the warning message that it wouldn't work with FW 5.12.x. Also, I've just realised my device is KT2, not 4, so maybe I installed the wrong MRPI package. Will double check and run it again.
I did try to get access to the root directory through a shell but couldn't install usb network extension, I think because I didn't have MRPI installed properly. Tried it the 'old' way, dumped the .bin in home folder and tried 'update kindle' method, but it was greyed out. Last edited by Hodgy; 04-26-2021 at 11:42 AM. |

Yeah, definitely update your JB via hotfix ^^. That definitely looks like the FW 5.12 effect on an old JB.
Sidebar: Nothing should actually say *anywhere* that the hotfix wouldn't work on 5.12 :? |

Anyway, flashing the hotfix has solved it. Thanks. ![]() |

The only 5.12 ref there is about blocking OTAs, not the hotfix
![]() As for the multiple threads, it's because the process involves multiple steps. I happen to maintain the "backend" (i.e., the bridge), while @tryol is the one that came up with an implementation of how to actually put that in place on your device. In an attempt to un-jail break my Paperwhite, I did a reset and installed the latest firmware. I'm now left with the "Kindle Feedback" icon, but guess there's nothing I can do now?

Hi, I got an old PW2 5.4.3.2, never hacked, and want to make JB, but when I copy from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030 // K5 JailBreak (5.0.x - 5.4.4.2) unzipped to root of USB connected PW2; the menu is still gray and update cannot be done, I have done it also after reset of PW2 but the menu for the update is still gray

Unzip the contents of the kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip archive to the root directory of your Kindle. |

In case it helps anyone, updating from firmware 5.13.5 to 5.13.6 on my newly un-jail broken PW4 has got rid of the “Kindle Feedback” icon

I assume that the response will likely be along the lines of "sorry, out of luck", however I was wondering is there any way at all to get a jailbreak to work on version 5.13.6, in my process of getting files after opening a refurbished device accidentally upgraded. I'm not afraid to hardware mod and such, problem is finding the information, assuming it even exists.

I got a KOA3 (with offers) during prime day, it came with 5.12 so I was able to jailbreak it, updated to 5.13.5, jailbreak still worked.
Today I open my kindle and KUAL is missing, but nothing got updated? And then when I reboot it kept going into S Cover Setup, with the UYK greyed out even if I had a hotfix bin in the root. Ended up putting the 5.13.6 bin to see if that'll take and it did, after which I re-applied the hotfixes and got KUAL back. I also didn't have offers removed, so I contacted support and they removed the offers, seems like there was no update process necessary, I just got a pop-up saying they were removed. Thanks to everyone who worked on making this all possible! |

Lots of questions about JB
I have questions about jailbreaking the kindle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have jailbroke my kindle PW3 following this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=267541 and the snapshots of NiLuJe, downloaded KUAL and all. But I forgot to turn off the wifi and then it got updated to 5.13.6 today ![]() I desperately want a jailbroken kindle for a better translator than bing translator. As I read through the threads in this site, it seems impossible to revive the jailbreak when updated to 5.13.6. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I have decided to purchase another used kindle(pw3 or pw4). But I was wondering if it is possible to jailbreak the kindle pw3 or pw4 without serial hacking and the soldering, just by inserting the file in the root folder of kindle. As I read the first post on this thread, it seems to say that it does not need serial hacking, am I right? So, is the serial hacking not a prerequisite anymore? Or does it differ by which kindle you own? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additionally, this is not really an relevant question to this thread, is it possible to use google translate through koreader just by highlighting a sentence? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=104386 I thought this hack was possible, but I found it is too outdated when I succeeded jailbreak. I didn't have time to try out koreader before my kindle got updated. Is it also possible for me to change google translate to another translator site if what I said above is possible? |

See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=339903 Run both JB Hotfix bin and Kual booklet hotfix bin and see if that fixes it, worked for me per the post right before yours. |

since the last update is already some time ago, i wanted to know about the current state. Is there any place i can follow the status of 5.12.5 jailbreak progress? |
