In short, TABS like with a web-browser. (for all I know the NOOK color can already do this)
I agree - I'd like that too. It almost seems that that would just require a software update, not the type of hardware update we're talking about for May 24 announcement. So maybe we can hope for it regardless of the Nook version. (BTW, the Color Nook cannot do this now)

I stand corrected on the Cybook and will amend my statement to say "the most popular eInk readers." I doubt Cybook has much market share, especially in the USA.

I agree that the software keypad on touch screen readers doesn't work well due to slow reaction time and eInk refreshing time. A keypad like the Kindles is a bit better, though a keypad with a softer touch would be even better. The Kindle keypad requires thumbnail pressing (in my case) and a hard press at that. That makes using it almost as clunky as the Sony software keypad. Perhaps a keypad with the response and feel of the one on my Blackberry Curve would work better as I can type a lot more quickly with it than that cumbersome Kindle keypad. But in reality, I doubt that a good key entry system can be designed for eInk readers due to the slow refresh rate.

That's "CyBook" . A range of readers made by Bookeen. Very popular here in Europe.

Don't get me wrong, the Kindle design is great for the Kindle. But I think the combined successes of other readers such as the Nook and the Sony proves that a lot of people want something different, and there's no reason at all why BN shouldn't take advantage of that, and design units that helps sets them apart from the Kindle.

If I wanted a Kindle, I would have bought one. I sincerely hope that BN strays as far away from the Kindle design as possible.

I entirely agree with you. A variety of different designs is to everyone's benefit.

Out of all of the designs of ereaders, I would list them in order of appeal and attractiveness:

Sony
Nook
Kobo
Every other reader on the planet
Kindle
I completely agree with this - I truly hate the Kindle keyboard. In the first six months of owning my Nook, I actually kept count how many times I used the soft keyboard - I used the Nook every day but the soft keyboard only 4 times in six months. Having a physical keyboard is a complete and utter waste of space for the way I use my ereader.

YMMV, of course.

Since I may be looking for an eInk device to supplement my Nook Color, I would hope for a Pearl eInk device with a full blown touchscreen. Battery life that improves on the battery life the Classic has now. Either different color options or graphite color (purely preference here). Less weight, but not too flimsy. No keyboard. U really do not like the keyboard on the Kindle. A $99 price point would be ideal, but would accept anything under $115.

My two biggest wishes are longer battery life and lighter weight.

I don't see much real value in a full touchscreen eReader. At least with the NOOKClassic, most of the user interface is on the LCD which I think is great, the top screen doesn't have to render new things and it's used mostly for what it is, that is READING. I would like it if the dictionary was moved to the LCD screen though..
Anyway, until colour e-ink comes along, there is no point, personally, in having a full screen touchscreen.
Although, as others have said, your mileage may vary and I could see pluses for the touchscreen only if there is colour e-ink or rooted apps, which could come in handy.

I know what you mean about a touchscreen not being all that useful for reading, and I also like the LCD OK (for swipe page-turns). However, for things like picking an entry from a table of contents, or even picking a book to read from the list in My Documents, it would be much easier with a touchscreen. I find it very difficult to navigate a long TOC with that small bottom panel - I either swipe too fast and go beyond the entry I want, or swipe too hard and pick an entry and then have to wait for it to open it just so I can close it. Grrrrr! Using a Color Nook in the same fashion is easy because of the larger touchscreen.

Also, it would make the browser MUCH more useful. Even though it is primarily intended as a reader, it would be nice to occasionally get some use out of the browser, and the thing holding that back is the non touchscreen.

i have had my nook wifi for about 2 weeks now. there are 3 things i would change so far:

1. move the battery lower. it feels top-heavy reading one handed.
2. make shelves visible to calibre. that would totally rock.
3. a matte grey or black finish on the front. the shiny beige is distracting when reading in bright light.

as far as the touchscreen - i had a touchscreen reader. i didnt care for it. granted, it was a PDNp with the Sipex screen, and slow as dirt. once the novelty of touch wore off, i found myself using the buttons to advance anyway. reading through fingerprints is less than optimal. i dont do web on my reader ... i have 3 desktops, 3 laptops, and a tablet at my disposal between work and home. not everything needs to be web-enabled.

i think the overall form factor of the nook is perfect - size is good ( i have HUGE hands), weight is tolerable - it feels substantial, but is not a burden.

I'm like something a little lighter and more slender. The Nook Classic has kind of that bulky "first generation" look at this point. I like the overall form factor in terms of screen size and the white plastic, but thinner would be much better.

I may be the only person on earth who likes the little LCD screen for viewing covers; I don't mind if they keep that, but touch screen is cool, too, I guess. As long as they keep the physical page turning buttons - I wouldn't want to lose those.

I do agree with wymore that a $99 price point is what they should be going for - it'd be a huge deal to undercut Amazon's $114 KWA (or KWSO or whatever they're calling it).

Having said that, will I buy the new nook? Probably not right away; maybe never. Between my NC and my Pocketbook 360, I almost never use my Nook Classic anymore. I still love it, though.
No, you aren't the only one who likes the second lcd screen. I LOVE it, and it was one of the main selling points for me. It just makes it feel more modern and "Today" especially when compared to the kindle's antiquated navigation buttons. The kindle especially the kindle 2 always looked and felt like those hand held electronic games from the 1980's. the K3 at least brings it to the 90's

alot of people love the lcd screen. I will miss it.

None of the manufacturers "of the most popular" eInk readers have embraced the concept of multiple fonts very well, and none have allowed the addition of fonts without hacking. Also any new reader must be lightweight! Get rid of that stupid LCD battery hog and weight addition! Go simple and small, but don't charge a fortune like Sony.

I definitely agree with Scion about the 7 inch screen. I loved it on my Sony 900 and 950 and love it on the nookcolor.
you won't buy an BN product? Wow first the world didn't end and now this?

Not exactly much of a shocker. Have a feeling no matter what ereader Barnes and Noble put out, you'l think it's the worst creation ever

I agree with this post , except I would flip flop the nook and sony, the nook classic is just so damn good looking.
