I love my nook classic, but I do think the "poor library management" argument is fair and valid. Heck, I have 300+ books from B&N alone, and navigating the library is...tedious.

I was psyched when they implemented shelves, but the feature was implemented so poorly in my opinion (can't be managed online and sync'd between devices, adding books to shelves was incredibly tedious and slow process, no easy way to drill directly to a specific shelf, etc.) that it ended up being DOA for me at least.

I don't think it's unreasonable to want to store one's entire library on their reader, if space allows. I don't like feeling tethered to my computer, or like I have to do a lot of library management before I can leave on a trip. That's part of the appeal of mobile reading, to me - my library, ANYWHERE.

Reasons to not buy a nook (again I like nooks they are fine readers I don't think they are the right thing for all people):

1) You don't want to book buy your books from Barns and Nobles;
(I like B&N they are a fine store);

2) You want some thing that is not a touch screen;

3) You want a the best possible resolution for charts, graphs and diagrams (Nook does a fine job of this its just that there is another reader that does better).

4) You want to pay less then the cost of a Nook or a Nook Color;

5) You want to pay $0 for your readers and you have a smart phone already.

6) You want Kindle's customization, ability to put your name in it and so forth

7) You want to read A4 size paper;

8) You want a hardware keyboard

9) you don't like the idea of cleaning the screen from touching it all of the time.

10) Want to be able to buy unusal books (let's face it amazon has everything);

11) Simplicity of operation (Nook and Nook color are fine readers its just that there is something simplier to oeprate);

Let's see now, total number of Kindle books in Swedish... I'm guessing around zero... I suspect that is true for many languages beside the big 4 (English, Spanish, French, German). Not that you can buy them at B&N either, but since the Nook happily accepts ePub from other sellers as well that's not a big issue.

I do agree that the Nook has REALLY poor library organizing and I can see why the Nook isn't for everyone, the same as, for example the Kindle, Sony, Kobo and every other reader isn't for everyone. Most of them has things both talking for them and against them. Price, ePub support, PDF handling, library organization, battery life... Everyone has to decide which feature are most important for him/her since no reader has it all. A topic like this can help in that process.

I think it's interesting to know what makes people choose what they do. I think it's a bit sad that it's done in a negative spirit "Why I would NOT..." instead of the more positive "The reason I WOULD choose..." but that's just my opinion and I still find it interesting!

Not to be pedantic, but... confusion ahead for me. Pardon me.

You don't have to buy B&N books for a Nook - both the Nook and NookColor support side-loading. And a rooted NookColor supports downloading catalogs via Calibre2opds. Granted, B&N books are MORE accessible. And also granted, if you intend to side-load your library, the 3G becomes much less useful.

I don't use a Kindle, so forgive me if this is ignorant, but Nook and NookColor have various custom options, and you can put your name in it - it's registered to your account and you can name the device whatever you want. Is that not what you mean?

I know there are wars being fought online about the Kindle/B&N libraries, but I've got 300+ nookbooks and I've yet to find anything that WASN'T offered on the B&N site but WAS offered as a Kindle book. My taste isn't universal, though.

It would work on the Nook, and you'd save $3.80 compared to Amazon. That's one of the beauties with ePub, you can shop around without having to strip DRM!

Is this not the same title? Here's the NookBook link:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Dri...ing+excellence

Granted, it's more expensive on the NookBook version than the Kindle one. But it IS available, and it's not unusual for the NookBook to be CHEAPER than Kindle - prices seem to vary widely in both directions.

that is wierd anam. On the link I made you go there and it tells you NOOKbook (eBook) - not available
Tell the publisher you want this in NOOKbook format. Yet your link is to the nook book. WTF. Anyway. The sony edition is the same price as amazon.. not 3.80 cheaper.

So it looks like the only book I have not found on both is actually on both.. which means I haven't found any not on both.

That is weird as well. When I look the Sony edition is 9.99 and the Kindle Edition (following your link) is 13.79. Do Amazon show different prices depending on where we live? Not that it matters, because for me it would actually cost $3.80 less at Sony.

Thank you! I have often said here on the forums the Sony store is not as bad its reputation here on the boards. In fact I very often found it to be cheaper than Amazon but nobody believed me. As far as my reading tastes go I found everything I ever searched for at Sony and at a competitive price, too.

For today, it's $9.99 for the same book from Sony and AMAZON, but $15.99 from B&N! I like to put ebooks I want on a wish list and keep an eye on the price changes, and they do tend to change on a daily basis, if they are not locked in by publisher.

This is so odd! I get 14.99 (not 15.99 as the previous poster) at B&N and still 13.79 at Amazon.com. I don't get why we see different prices! (Makes no difference if I'm logged in or not at Amazon, but I am on a Swedish IP.)

Well, it just proves that shopping around can make a difference, and my decision to go for ePub readers is the right one for me! I always compare prices, and for the few ebooks I have bought the Kindle version has either been the same or more than what I have payed for the ePub. Possibly because Amazon charge me extra for being in Sweden. I think I'll stick to ePub readers in the future as well...

The B&N website is seriously in need of an overhaul. The search function is extremely buggy, and the nookbooks are rarely tied correctly to the paperback version; hence the "tell the publisher!" button even when the nookbook already exists.
