I guess I do not seem to agree with that assessment now. 5 years ago maybe, but it seems as the fear of terrorism is not as strong at is used to be and the economy has taken hold over it. I mean honestly if you want, I guess you can say that is how almost all government's run is by fear then by that argument. I was just wondering if you were from the US that is all as I noticed a lot of UK posters on this board. Also I guess it depends on where you are at, but in Philadelphia, we don't get those type of campaigns anymore. It is who can get the city out of financial trouble, and not much to do about fear or anything like that. |

We're talking about an area of the world that has been at war with itself for over eight thousand years--that we have records for. Land resources are limited and a lot of the terrain is harsh, leading to a lot of strict rules to allow communities to survive at all. Technology has overcome a lot of the limitations, but the thousands of years of historical background of conflict remain. And if the Western world would GTFO, they'd cope. They managed to live alongside each other without total destruction for a very long time. The problem isn't whether the Israelis and Palestinians can find some way to live near each other nor whether Iran and Iraq have religious differences that make them kill each other, it's that people who live ~6,000 miles away have demanded *their* right to have a say in the conflicts, based on religious & moral structures not shared by the people involved. (Okay, rant over. Can we go back to the promiscuous women causing earthquakes? 'Cos I'm in favor of that.) |

Can we get back to the original topic please? I find the whole idea of attaching blame like this appalling and completely against reason. Of course that could apply to any religion -- which is based on belief without proof. Now let's not go too far down that alley either, but I'm surprised some religious group has not declared the ash cloud over Europe a sign of God's displeasure with them.... |

But in Denmark there has been the occasional nutjob. Loosely translated: " - A small volcano erupting on Iceland has demonstrated how powerless we are. Airports with all their technology and know how are paralyzed. This is a forewarning of far, far more violent events, which will come to pass in our generation as a sign that Jesus returns, says Moses Hansen" "- One day when you call me, you'll get the answering machine. Jesus has been here and collected me. The media will be busy, when millions of people vanish because Jesus collects them. There will be chaos, when believing busdrivers disappear while they are driving." etc. etc. | |
