Hi all I have seen phphoto New York has reduced the sony reader to 299 US I paid 349 a few months ago (April) well that's life. I have seen some of you are paying taxes on this item on home turf. I never had to pay anything in Australia. I see once again the poor English man/woman is being ripped off. I have also downloaded some audio, Audible.com files (after converting to mp3 with sound taxi, tunebites is hopeless and I am waiting for a refund,so be warned.) on to my sony and it is great, the only downside is you will always have to listen from the beginning as there is no pause or fast forwarding as there is with itunes. or ipod. Good reading sonny |

Ehm. The Sony MP3 player only has a pause, not a stop ... it ought to hold your position just fine .... What exactly is it doing to you? |

Yes, sorry -- I was unclear. I was talking about the MP3 player application on the Sony Reader. Is that not what you're talking about? The application doesn't have a "stop", it only has "play" and "pause" -- if you watch it when you "stop" the playback, the display doesn't say that it's stopped, it says that it's paused. In any case, when I do as you're describing, and stop/pause MP3 playback, it holds the place just fine. I haven't played with it a great deal, as I don't use the thing to play MP3's, though I do anticipate that I might use it as you're describing for audio books. |

I got my Reader from bhphotovideo. Delivery to Germany took only about 40 hours ( so not even 2 days) with "UPS Saver" (this is the cheapest they offer for german customers). Incredible fast I think! The german "Zoll" (customs?) charged me about 50€. (19% Einfuhrumsatzsteuer, 0% Einfuhrzoll) |

Finally received my reader and I'm VERY impressed it looks soooooo cool with the M-Edge brown jacket . Now I have a question, is it really necessary to install the latest update? |

No, not really necessary, per se. It does get you a bit more stability with large RTF files, and you can fix the battery bug (and make other adjustments) that the update introduces using the Universal PRS-500 Flasher tool, if you're so inclined.

So should I first install the sony update and then the universal flasher or just the universal flasher?

I'd do the update first, I don't think the flasher includes the full set of update files. |

Installed firmware then installed flasher with the joystick hack and went like a charm no problems first time . I'm a very happy puppy |

Congratulations! I left my "left" jogstick function to do the "Back" think in the history list -- I find it useful for when I hit one of the number buttons accidentally, but having the "right" function change the pages doesn't seem to lose me anything, and I can still effectively change pages with the jogstick under almost all circumstances. |
