Wasn't a general consensus a while back (as in before my prolonged absence) that "Bob" was a good name?

There once was a three fingered masseuse who learned her profession from a liseuse I know that doesn't rhyme but it's not a crime because I'm no Dr. Suess Last edited by Daithi; 09-14-2009 at 03:10 PM. |

I was born in France and have spoken French my whole life. I see no need to add a term to English when a perfectly good one already exists. And why a French word? Ereaders were not invented in France and as Zelda has pointed out, "liseuse" has a number of different meanings in French already. If we want to appeal to some higher authority, however, we should address the pompous Académie Française which devotes much of its time to legitimizing words and meanings (once engaging in a profound debate over whether "automobile" was masculine or feminine). Query: Is there anyone on this thread who has difficulty understanding the meaning of the word "ereader"?

I am reading a really good eBook using my eBook reader. eBooks are what one reads using an eBook reader. See, we don't need that silly word. Plus, this way, everyone will know exactly what is meant instead of going huh? | |

My computer contains files called eBooks. But it is not a (insert silly word). My 505 is actually a very portable computer. So it's not a (insert silly word). I think (silly word) is just going to have to go away for the good of the human race.

Just so we're clear on this: if liseuse ever gets accepted by wikipedia, it'll just be a nice, cute article that will make some of us smile, and the rest will not be affected at all, right? No wikipedia police force will slap our fingers (or worse) if we use the term e-book reader, right? Languages are beautiful, flexible and evolving; the day a language stop transforming is the day it dies. Let's play with words and be merry! Last edited by Verencat; 09-14-2009 at 06:50 PM. |
