A 5-inch eInk book reader for less than $200. The Pocketbook 360 with support for secure ePub and eReader and for sale in the US. Fair prices for eBooks. Honest politicians. Open, friendly, reliable bankers. World peace. And an inexpensive holodeck!

[I may have gotten carried away with the last couple.]

What Krisk said. Lack of safe, reliable, clean mass transit is shameful. And light rail is wonderful, I've been on both BART and DART. (Bay Area Rapid Transit and Dallas Rapid Transit).
Non exclusive access to all books ever printed in ebook format.
Readers for said ebooks that fit everyone's budget.
Personal flight pack devices.

Star Trek's replicators uses Energy->Matter conversion to create items, then Matter->Energy conversion to reclaim them. Much cleaner than compost.

Replicators would have been my choice too , but if limited to reasonable uses of current technology, I want centralized, reasonably priced repositories of all the media ever published/recorded/filmed. No more wondering if something is available electronically yet, and which store would I need to purchase it in. Hopefully that would eliminate much of the motivation for piracy, adequately compensate content creators and publishers, and stop the waste that accompanies overly large print runs and transporting media by truck to retail stores.

How about the Kindle in countries other than the USA? And I'm all for all ebooks being available at all ebook vendors. When is the last time you heard of an exclusive pbook at only the "fillintheblank" store. It's rediculus you can buy most mass market pbooks in airports and pharmacies and the like but if you want certain ebooks and don;t live in the USA and own a Kindle, Sorry tough luck. I think maybe I am heading towards the Vent/Rant Thread.....

Another something waay overdue: Ecotopia! That magical land stretching from Washington State to the northern half of California that had given up on unsustainable and polluting living, seceded from the USA, and created a country devoted to natural foods, pro-social activities, extended family values, free love, public transportation, and occasional bloodsports to get the violence out of your system.

I would've emigrated...

How about something actually doable like mass producing electric cars! The cars we are using now are using almost the same technology as their inception almost a century ago. And on that note, why can't our roads have some kind of detectors that allow us to run on autopilot. No more car accidents from drivers too busy talking on their mobile phones to actually pay attention to their driving. Sorry - It's a pet peeve of mine.

Steve, I really do like your idea of a universal key fob. Can it also have a code attached so I can get rid of all those little plastic tags the grocery stores, bookstores, card stores, etc. give me so I can get sale prices? I hate having to dig those things out all the time!

Oh I understand! Talking on cell phone has been forbidden in Québec last year, so now, people use text messaging while they drive!!!

I'd root for a better surveillance on roads... we must be abble to do better, no?

This concept actually scares me. I think its handing over too much freedom to institution x while we drive.

Also i think the universal code is coming sooner than we might think. They are already placing rfid chips in state id ( only if requested... for now). once everyone is tagged "they" will not only know what u buy, but at what time u go to bed.

GE (General Electric) has started this new smart grid technology (they advertise it with out advertising IT...), where "we"(they) can control our appliances remotely. Not only will they know what kind of appliances we have (the new ones are getting chiped for this function) but they will be able to tell when we are home (by usage), what kind of job we have... ect.

The way they justify this to the American public is that they will be able to save money if "they"(them) have control over their power consumption remotely....

Well, considering how in the U.S. auto accidents remain one of the nation's biggest killers, I think maybe it's time we tried letting the machines do the driving. It can't be that much more dangerous than the job we're doing...

If they monitor my home electricity use, or just my cable to see when I switch off The Daily Show (and obviously they can), they can figure that out now!

Kaz: Electric cars? Hells, yeah. Electric cars are definitely waay overdue. And also yeah, there's no reason all those store tags can't be coded into those fobs.

Here's another: Decent and cheap modular homes suitable for worldwide use.
