I'll have to investigate the villanelle... It's not something I am familiar with - I just write without getting involved too much in length..

as night surely follows each day. Warming shadows paint the night as cool blue light takes o’er our sight. Icy blue by light of moon, as steel pervades an endless night. What is black and what is white, it’s too soon as faking colours inveigle our sight. Is light the illusion, or is it us as we traverse an alien land Created by no slight of hand or truss but death of Helios by night’s hand. |

You definatley do very good work, Geoff. And whereas your coffee poem was brilliantly written of form and verse, the request for coffee was specified as "not the drink".

By the way, this is the second poem in which youve included the word "saucy". Me thinks you have something on your mind?

The mists coiled 'round the tombstones. Shrouds of gray and black. White white makeup and teen angst groans Were Thursday night's soundrack. Then the clouds cracked to reveal the moon And the goth kids laughed and flashed their moon. |

Here's an example of a villanelle. It consists of 6 stanzas, the first 5 of which are triplets, the latter being a quadruplet. In the first stanza, lines one and three are repeated alternatingly as the last lines of the following 4 triplets. The last quadruplet must use the 2 repeating lines as its final 2 lines. Also, it must be ABA rhyme scheme. Here is an example I wrote in college.

--------NECCESSARY VOYAGE------- Going fro and to, and to and fro, I'm eastbound on a ship against all wills. The core of my intestines will I throw. Hunger strikes, unfortunate, I know. Seasick and shamed among the sea-salts riels. Going fro and to, and to and fro. Like clockwork does my head to portside go. Sea-salty, sweaty air, my nostril fills. The core of my intestines do I throw. Now laid up in my cabin, deep and low, And taken none to few of seasick pills, Still going fro and to, and to and fro. The jaunt's about to end, what do you know. Excitement stirs inside me, full of thrills. The core of my intestines again I throw. The harbour lies ahead, to portside go. And staring at the land and rolling hills, I'm going fro and to, and to and fro. The core of my intestines anew I throw. --------------------- As you see, the repeated lines aren't EXACT. I only changed them slightly to better enforce the idea, or jist, of the action. It also makes it funnier. Call it artist's perogative. :P But anyway. I'm off to the store. Gonna make a pineapple carrot cake with rum cream cheese icing. YUM. |

If you asked me to tell you the exact moment I lost my innocence I’d be hard pressed. But, I remember a girl, in eighth grade, who I barely knew. Her name was Danielle Cofee. She was remarkable, and looked like Joan Jett, to me. I wanted so badly to tell her; but, she was a burnout, and I was a jock. Her stepfather shot her, and I found out about it, like everyone else, in fifth period, from Principal Macintyre. Twenty years later, I still think about how damn beautiful she was, and what a coward I used to be. |
