I need help restoring PW 2
Good day. I need help restoring PW 2. The e-reader's memory has become "permanent." When I connect it to a computer, the drive appears completely "clogged" with e-reader files, plus cvm_28047_038-juno_120202_pinot_wario-379151.core and Indexer_Dump_1765959394197.txt . All of these files can be deleted, even completely formatted, but after disconnecting the e-reader from the computer, all the files return.
The e-reader is still "semi-functional," meaning I can open downloaded books, but it often crashes to the main screen (I'm reading in Koreader). Resetting the drive doesn't work, and the firmware update doesn't work. So I'm trying to restore it. I want to try to restore PW2 with Kubrick's help - https://web.archive.org/web/20180406...=30351#1233943 But the needed files here http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PW2/ (main_kernel.img and mmcblk0p1.bin.gz) are offline. Does anybody have a backup copy? Thank you so much! |

Your description looks like failing eMMC storage. = no fixing that (you theoretically could replace the storage chip) using software.

I tend to agree with @ShamanNS. The eMMC chip has reached the end of it's write lifespan and gone into a read only mode.

Anything is possible. But I still want to try restoring it using software.
Does anyone still have the main_kernel.img and mmcblk0p1.bin.gz files from PW2? |

Erm, every firmware update bin file (that you can download from Amazon's servers) contains kernel img and rootfs partition image. You just need to use "kindletool" to unpack / extract them from bin file.

Quote:
Specifically, the update_kindle_paperwhite_v2_5.12.2.2.bin firmware is decompressed into the following files: rootfs.img.gz rootfs.img.gz.sig update-payload.dat update-payload.dat.sig and the imx60_vario folder And the firmware update_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial.bin is on: data.stgz data.stgz.sig rootfs.img.gz rootfs.img.gz.sig update-J4032-wario-003.dat update-J4032-wario-003.dat.sig and the imx60_vario folder And how to get the main_kernel.img and mmcblk0p1 files.bin I do not know. |
