GoldenDict 1.7.2 for Android - Indexing after each start

Hello

since long I use GoldenDict for Android (also for Mac and Win) and since my new phone with Android 14 (now 15) I have the issue, that on each use it asks me:

"The following dictionaries are to be indexed before they can be used"

and all my dictionarys are to indexed for further use, it might seem.
I noticed soon, that I can just ignore it and go on with 'Skip' and all works, but it is annoying.
I checked all permissions and none is restricted.

The app is very old and not anymore supported, see:

the version 1.7.2 can be donwloaded for free and licensed. On Github its only Mac and Win:

Anyone still uses GoldenDict 1.7.2 and knows how to get rid of this message on start?

I use GoldenDict with Librera on various Android devices with Android 14 and 15 without problems. Have you tried uninstalling GoldenDict and reinstalling it? Make sure to clear cache and storage in the Settings app plus deleting the folder for GoldenDict before re-installing, just to make sure.

I have a device with Android 16 (Viwoods AI Paper Reader) where GoldenDict closes itself at once after I installed/indexed the dictionaries. Strange behaviour. A good replacement on Android is ColorDict. A disadvantage is that you can't include external dictionary folders from other apps.

Alternatively, you could try a modded version of the app: https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?show...st&p=107822834. That's the latest modded version 2.4. I use it on several Android devices without problems.

You might have to install it with adb:

When I click on the link https://4pda.to/forum/dl/post/233093...nDict2.4.0.apk I always get a 404 ("Ой! Ошибка 404.") even when I allow cookies. Changing the user agent also gets me a 404.

What I forget to mention: if I tap on 'Proceed' and 'Done' at the start of GoldenDict 1.7.2 at the beginning it doesn't change anything, it doesn't index and I get the indexing screen immediately again, so I just hit 'Skip'

well, I got it from their telegram channel url (not really a straight forward way but I managed to get it working): https://t.me/goldendict/171

haven't used adb!

I just sent the apk to phone then installed it with the native package installer.

Yes, that apk I tried, it is the same error than with adb, when I try to install with the installer. Yes, I know the permission to install apks, its not that.

Could it be some directory permissions issue? you said you checked them but it still sounds like it. Perhaps dig an alternative mod

It works, if I just Skip the Indexing. For me it is a bug in the app with newer Android versions. Just too old.
I live with it then. The app is still good enough, especially because it can use all those old and huge Babylon glossaries. If I find an app which can use these, I am out

uhum I thought that too. Can't test beyond android 12 because it's my device max version.
