The font weight for RMSDK can still be set manually in the config file. Apparently the latest firmware doesn't set the values correctly. I just found this:

Doesn't do anything in the default renderer, though. They keep releasing updates but still haven't fixed basic functionality of the user interface.

This is still an issue in 5.7.212781.
On the plus side, links finally work!

Apparently they fixed the issue with the last lines of a chapter sometimes getting lost, too. But now this can happen:

Jon, just perhaps you might want to revisit the Cannot get rid of DevMode where a Kobo Clara BW purchased from eBay came with firmware 5.7.209372.

That the serial number in the image looks like a Tolino serial number and the firmware revision seems to be a in-house beta. Makes you wonder if someone forgot their ereader on public transit much like the prototype iPhone 4 that was left at bar by an Apple employee 15 years back. German beer and secrecy didn't mix very well.

I would say this is unofficial because it's not listed on the firmware site. It could be a Kobo beta. Or it could maybe be a Tolino beta that someone managed to install.

Either way, it's the only Kobo I've heard of that have a version 5 firmware on it.

Kobo clara bw/colour and kobo libra colour are identical to their tolino counterparts, you can update to the 5.x firmware and there is indeed "kobo" mode in there

I have the exact same problem. I tried it many times and the Shine 5 will not restart. The version stays 5.0.175773 (499b0d4328).
