I recall the reason I thought of posting. Renaming for reference works like dictionary or encyclopedia, e.g. chapter_A, _B, _C, etc. If there cases of needing more than 26 renames –*other languages? –, I'm not sure. Maybe transliteration of Sanskrit or other scripts someday, eventually?
Such is useful as one as one may do much editing post-naming of files, and referring and finding each becomes much easier. If someday you'd consider it, I think on Windows, and macOS – perhaps too Linux –, there is some control that expands a dialog, such as a right pointing arrow that then shows another part? Such maybe something like: renaming scheme or something: - numerical: 01, 02, 03, ... - upper-case alphabetical: A, B, C, ... - lower-case alphabetical: a, b, c, ... ... If one does nothing, default behavior so maybe it remains as simple as it is now. Maybe someday. |

You understand that e-readers never show filenames. So this would only be useful for people who build epubs, and do not like the default naming after a split, don't want to bother to set each name manually, and then need or want to post process the files *outside* of Sigil using a limited set of 26 suffix chars.
This is not something a typical user of Sigil would find useful. Last edited by KevinH; 04-04-2023 at 05:47 PM. |

Of course. I do so much heavy editing of long works such that file names immensely help me find which chapter to go to, e.g. partx-chapter_x or whatever is appropriate, sometimes in 50-100+ file works, helps me to quickly identify a file when often switching between them.

Hi,
i'm using macos ventura 13.3. When i cliick into an html page and choose "Reformat HTML -> Mend and prettify Code - All Files" the menu shrinks to "Sigil File" (same as if Sigil is loosing focus). Clicking into the Sigil Windows brings back the full menu. /\ngrox |

Yes, when you asked it to process all files, Sigil uses multiple threads to handle this work in parallel causing the current ui thread to yield its focus.
The Sigil application itself takes focus not a specific main window. You will need to choose which main window if you have multiple open you want to continue with. Last edited by KevinH; 04-10-2023 at 07:55 AM. |

Absolutely no code changes in this area in a very long time. So maybe a macOS change?

I don't understand "the menu shrinks to 'Sigil File'".
For what it's worth, I am on macOS 13.3.1 and when I click into an html page (Code View) and select Reformat HTML > Mend and Prettify Code - All Files" the windows don't change. Mend and Prettify runs and the windows remain as they were before I clicked Mend and Prettify. I tried this from both the menubar and right-click menus. Quote:

The normal menu is
Sigil|File|Edit|Insert|Format|Search|Tools|View When the epub2 book is already mended then nohings happens, i guess there is a flag that since the last mend operation no code change has been done. When there is something to do, "Reformat HTML => Mend and prettify - All HTML file" the code is mended/prettified, but the menu is now Sigil|File I've updated to 13.3.1 as well but the behavior persists und i'm pretty sure this wasnt the case in all previous version. If i click in the code again ann entries in the menu are present again. But as this isnt the case on odamizus mac it seems that this is ging to happen due to a special setup on mine but i've no idea whats causing this. |

Ah. I understand now, and interestingly, I can reproduce it on macOS 13.3.1. But it doesn't happen every time.
I haven't done exhaustive testing, but so far I've only gotten it to happen using right-click context menu, not menubar > Tools. It also happens with both epub2 and epub3. It also happens when book is already mended — i.e., if I run Mend and Prettify repeatedly on the same book, I can trigger this event. But again, this doesn't happen every time and I haven't figured out the pattern to trigger it on demand. That said, clicking on anything in the Sigil window will cause the menubar to return to normal, so it's possible this isn't new and I just never noticed it. Quote:

What you are seeing is determined by when the last concurrent thread finishes that is running Mend completes. Effectively random. I will look into if there is a way to restore focus more consistently.
