That's not true. Most books, even recently published, are available for download & transfer. Note that this is not the same as downloading the books directly to a Kindle device. They're two different things.

Most, yes. But the book in question is KFX only.

If this is the direction Amazon is going, then I guess it's a good thing Nook books can be "liberated" again. I was going to start buying from B&N anyhow, I guess this might give me another "push" to do it.

EDIT: I was able to download my free Prime book (that I usually ignore) and it went into Calibre fine -- so I guess noDRM is still alive (at least for some books). This book was published in 2023.

It's nothing to do with DRM, but you've not be able to D&T samples for some time.

The algorithm names appear in web traffic between Kindle apps and Amazon's servers. It is an assumption that the later algorithms are stronger, but I can't prove it.

It is a choice. Amazon gives the option to voluntarily give them exclusives. It makes the publishers look foolish. If Adobe decides to counter the offer by tightening their DRM scheme, they will shoot themselves in the foot. Everybody will have unbreakable DRM, except Amazon imprints. That will give Amazon an advantage.

Amazon gives better percentages if you go kindle exclusive. Especially for smaller publishers this could be the only means for making a small profit so yes, kindle exclusives are a thing in every market.

Of course I know that indies and small publishers are often Amazon exclusives. But Random House? Never heard about them doing it before.

I can't see the option to buy the book as ebook on the publishing house website

https://penguin.co.in/book/sach-kahun-toh/ they offer only the hardback

Checking other books, they list "ebook" among the options. So, IDK, I would contact the publishing house to ask for clarification before jumping to any conclusion. It wouldn't be the first time someone messed up.

I can find other Penguin Random House India books at Kobo. So maybe just one of that divsion's imprints or maybe just particular ebooks are Amazon exclusive.

I was under the impression that was only for small or self-publishers. Large ones would (or should) have the ability to negotiate.
