Calibre Campanion and Amazon's new KFX-ZIP format

I have Calibre on my main computer and I use the calibre companion on my tablet to pull the books over and open with Kindle or an epub reader. I pulled in a kindle book on my computer and Calibre imported it as a KFX-ZIP. I connected to the Calibre on my main computer from my tablet but the Calibre Campanion app couldn't bring over the book. Is it because Calibre imported it as a KFX-ZIP instead of just a KFX?

If it was imported into Calibre as KFX-ZIP that is a clear indicator that the book wasn't successfully deDRM-ed so you're not going to be reading it anywhere else.

Since for a large part I buy older books, I can live with Kindle for PC version 1.17 not accepting any e-book published after Jan. 3 '23 - these recent books I'll get in EPub. I still use Kindle for PC, deDRM and then Send-to-Kindle because I find it practical to have all my e-books in the Amazon cloud and arranged in collections that I can use on my Kindle(s). But I think I read somewhere it is not possible to make any NEW installation of Kindle for PC 1.17 on a new computer (or an old one after a crash), even if one has the software available - presumbaly because Amazon wouldn't accept registering it ? Does anyone know whether such is the case - having tested it in real-life conditions ? If so, THAT would annoy me. Thanks a lot in advance for any clue. |

I seem to remember one person claiming that Amazon wouldn't let them register, but then it turned out to be user error or a temporary glitch. Since the discussion is spread out over two (three, if you count the Android one) threads I'm not inclined to go digging for it.

The software for the various types of kindle is amazingly bad. Hopefully, Amazon will add these features in the future. Until then, due to my memory issues, I have to add these notes myself. Over the years a lot of flexibility has been lost and I'm getting used to it. When was the last time you recorded something on TV?

Back before streaming and pretty much everything being available on demand. I still can record it, but why bother. Don't understand the correlation you're trying to draw there.

I can use a USB stick or a USB HDD to record. It can be more easily scheduled. I've had two different models of Satellite receiver that had built in recording, they were inferior. Used a handful of times in last 20 years. First digital solution was a Satellite receiver card in an Windows XP PC. There are multiple reasons why recording is less common: 1) Streaming (though we don't use that in our house). 2) Less content worth recording. 3) Almost no TV being watched due to poorer content. 4) Re-watchable decent programs are on BD /DVD and now very cheap in CEX or charity shops. VHS was awkward compared to later digital recording, but peak home recording was from mid 1980s to early 2000s in Ireland. Our last VHS recordings were S-VHS format of a few features on Satellite TV about 20 years ago. We've gradually replaced them with DVD/BD if important. The only one occasionally still watched is "The Christmas List". None of our Kid who've left home and have kids do any recording. They have streaming, YouTube, Console games etc. It's actually possible to record streaming by two methods, but only commercial pirates bother. It's simple once set up.

Mac (desktop) Kindle files not packaged only in folder

Hey! Sorry for the n00b question, I am still new to all of this. I have KINDLE app for my laptop however I do want to convert these files (which I can read in my Kindle app for my Mac) into any other format (ePub, PDF etc...) however I can't even get past the "add title to Calibre" step... all the videos, and tutorials that I have seen on line show this "AZW3 package" which Calibre just opens but when I go to where my files are stored all I get is a folder that has the a folder name similar to file name to what I have seen in examples, and ti has EBOK in the folder name and inside the folder there is a .azw file but Calibre can't open any of these files. I am currently on OS Monterey and I have also installed an older version on Big Sur and I have installed the DeDRM plug-in for both with hopes that one of these may work but so far nothing... Any suggestions? |

My DVD/Laptop plays recordings without Internet (or even Mains power). Just look at the news here in Ca. Folk who went into the mountains without extra food, fuel or clothing. "I'll just pop over to the xyz and grab some" Maybe it is where I grew up, but... we prepared for Winter storms by having food in the storm shelter (basement), The coal bin (later fuel oil) filled. And we had a small generator and plan on how to make it last (On: cycle Water pump, refer, and furnace... then off for hours).

And note that using Kindle for Mac no longer works for recently published books.

That is an easy answer. Yesterday. I have a 2TB DVR. Recordings do not expire. But On Demand does expire. Sometimes I'll want to fully record a series and then watch it. But by the time I get to the end of the series, some of the On Demand episodes could already have expired. Another reason to record is that I can look at the list of recordings and see what it is I want to watch and when it's on. I can start a program recording about 15 minutes after it's started and be able to skip the commercials. It's like buying eBooks from Amazon published in 2023 and then finding out I can no longer download and remove the DRM. Last edited by JSWolf; 03-04-2023 at 08:51 AM. |
